Related, ICE arrested the mayor of Newark, NJ for protesting ICE raids...a little convenient that it happens at the same time as Miller speaking. Show of force maybe?

They are in fact counting on this, Miller has pretty much said so by stating “if the courts don’t behave..”. There’s no other meaning and this is not an idle threat on his part. He scares the hell out of people.

Before the year is out, there could be numerous members of the judiciary in the US out of work or “on the wall” so to speak.

The Supreme Court will inevitably rule that the suspension of habeus corpus is unconstitutional. At what point do the millions of uniformed personnel who swore to uphold and defend the constitution make an appearance?

It starts with the people with funny, foreign names and skin that doesn’t look the same. People who weren’t born in the U.S., people who can rightly or wrongly be accused of some offence. People who don’t get any sympathy from Trump’s base. Those offences will gradually get smaller. The names will start getting more familiar sounding and the people will start to look more like you or me. It’s the creeping incrementalism of autocracy. What is normalized against a purported foreign gang member today will take a bit of time to normalize against political dissidents, but that’s the direction the trajectory heads if left to continue.

The Supreme Court will certainly rule against any suspension of Habeas Corpus. The camel will keep sticking its nose under the tent flap looking for a way in. Article 1 of the constitution guarantees Habeas Corpus, but leaves exceptions for “unless when in cases of Rebellion or Invasion the public Safety may require it.” The administration’s use of the Alien Enemies Act - which has thus far been quashed in court - shows their willingness to torture and abuse this kind of terminology. I expect they’ll keep trying.

Considering they just released an EO to hire 20,000 new Gestapo ICE officers and and are laying the invasion narrative pretty heavy, expect something nutty by the end of June.
