Looks pretty damn good to me. The CAF has had no better friend in over a generation than this government. Insane levels of investment.

Going with the AW149 would be 1 fleet with the SAR side of things, correct?
The downside of the budget is they do not have the money, expect things to be cut, downsized or ignored. My opinion is they do not expect to be in power for a full term and will hand this mess off to the other party. Then spend 4 years pointing fingers on why the budget does not work.
Yes I know but it is also a CAF issue as it pushes people to hard leave the military at certain milestones. I know people who have wanted to stay in part time but couldnt pass up on the money on the table. These are often people in the prime of careers and are motivated to stay in. There is no good reason for VAC to keep this limitation in place.

The change from the 20 year to 25 year pension I blame as one of the worst examples of policy which harmed the CAF. Many stayed after the 20 year mark anyways, but that 25 year point is much harder to reach when your at 8-12 years in and realize you have to do over double your current service to get it.

I am glad I got to keep my old IE20. And now deep into the 30/30 plan.
The ‘six years’ tier of this benefit is worth about $49,000 now. Absolutely it’s an incentive to release if someone was already thinking of school. Arguably more so in the PRes where we mostly aren’t relying on CAF for our primary source of income.

The CAF has an indecent obsession with retention over turnover and renewal. Not everyone should stay 15--20-25-35 years.
The principal failing of the VAC benefit is that it doesn't provide subsistence support, meaning that those best positioned to take advantage of it are those with higher CAF incomes, who generally already have marketable skills.
The solution space is likely less any dramatic change to what VAC offers, and instead simplification, renewal, and investment in greater in service education and training plans.

Yup. ETB is great, but you aren’t also paying for food and a roof with it.
The CAF Retention Strategy (2022) quoted some numbers which suggested that the typical Regular Force member serves for 12.2 years. Now, that’s a median, and the release rate isn’t constant as it spikes at various lengths of service — but we are hardly the Roman Legions with their 25 year oaths of enrolment.
Meh, a lot of legionairies never made it to 12 years let alone 25.

back on topic, the federal budget gives massive amounts to DND but I am highly worried we cant spend it, even with the new defense procurement agency. The red tape isnt designed to buy anything quickly
