I've a rodent problem for quite sometimes where I live. I thought it might be a rat or a mice. Until a few weeks ago when a mice died in a trap.

So now I now my opponent. Opponent because there at least one that visit me every night. Ronlanuit (Rongeur la nuit) is getting in my bedroom earlier this autumn and staying longer in the morning.

The landlord has put more traps and that's it! Employees of the landlord have refused a temporary cat (The SPCA in my town is looking for temporary ', famille d' accueil for some of them). I've found out that nice are as fast as a bullet (so no catch and release).

Even with me telling them there must be a hole somewhere, 1 employee has ONLY look at 1 of the walls.

One employee is supposed to put poison in the traps but she never had it with her. ( Iknow because I provided her with the peanut butter she's supposed to mix with the poison.)

I think it's time to be more creative. I want to put this roommate out so I can fall asleep. (I'm waiting to hear its sound on the evening and I can't fall asleep until it's gone on the morning.?

I'm thinking of buying traps to cage it. Anyone know of some that works?

(The sound started in the wall 3 years ago.) But its been coming into my place every night only since this end of September. There's might be a family (or colony) of them now in the building.

I'd also love to have references (in French) on those small rodents to learn what could be effective against them.

Do yourself a favour, and go buy some mouse traps from Real Canadian Superstore. They come in packs of 2.

(Don't bother with the ones from Canadian Tire, they can be finicky and won't go off unless set just right)

Use either Peanut Butter or Cheese Whiz as bait - and put it close to the base of the pressure plate, so it forces the mouse to step onto it to sniff the bait.

Don't bother with the poison pellets - they do work, but it takes time to build in their system to sufficient amounts that they are lethal.

Plus they poison the mouse carcass for any scavengers further down the food chain - definitely don't use the poison pellets if you think any cats might also come in contact with the mice

Don't bother with the non-lethal traps. They don't work

This system works really well at the cottage. And we can leave it all winter if we want. Fill the bottom with a few inches of anti freeze to avoid the smell and freezing. Once we knew how they got in we sealed that up and then put this out. Caught 12 of them…

Rube Goldberg would approve. Smile emoji.

We backed on a field and had visitors seeking the warmth of our house every autumn. I've tried all of the above (the bucket trap is disturbingly satisfying but leaves you with a clean-up task) and I can guarantee you that if there is one mouse there are a bunch of mice. They breed rapidly.

Do yourself a favour and get a pest control company in. It's definitely worth the money. They will look for likely points of ingress and travel and will place baited poison traps (the poison dehydrates the mice so they don't smell if they end up dying in the walls, etc.).

Hopefully the landlord will step up cover the cost (or at the very least be willing to share the cost).

if they have been bothering you for 3 years you have an infestation: not a visitor. www.amazon.ca/Kness-101-0-002-Ketch-All-Mousetrap/dp/ I have 2 of the ketch-all live traps and they work great if you smear peanut butter inside near the trigger but you need to be prepared to drown them afterwards as they will come back. But I am going to guess that an exterminator would be the best bet if he is going to actually trap them. Poison will cause awful odours in the wall.

I'm so fascinated by this mouse trap...

So the mouse walks up the ramp, and...how do you get it to actually fall into the bucket?? Is there like a cardboard false plank or something they walk onto??

They jump across to the can which spins them off into the water at the bottom of the bucket and they drown. I used the empty tube from a roll of paper towel for mine.

Peppermint is a scent they hate and will avoid, same with ammonia. Shameless plug for a moment, my parent Company Rentokil does residential pest services, and operates in Quebec, you might be able to call them and get some advice.
