2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

Trump supporters say he's not going to actually do it.

Trump says he's going to do it.

I know who I believe here.
Drafting plans would not be manifestly unlawful. Executing them would be.

FWIW, orders to invade Greenland would at least be a “once and for all” proof of how far his effective authority extends. If he finds a military leaders who would do that, and he defeats Congress in its execution, then there are no meaningful constraints left. One or both of senior military leadership and Congress could still curb his unilateral assertions of executive authority.

He claims he would use military force against the Kingdom of Denmark, and he has ordered plans to do so. Whether or not he ultimately does, anyone who at this point still doubts he would if it suits him is an idiot.
Everything we’re seeing in Trump’s domestic and foreign police is at this point no longer merely suggestive, but outright indicative of a shedding of democratic guardrails and a rapid descent into outright authoritarianism. We’re well past the early 1930s now; this is 1936 pushing on 1937.

He fired all the JAG officers.

He's fired anyone in the administration who could ever say no to him.

He fired the national security council.

He says he wants Greenland.

Stephen Miller's wife has posted about taking Greenland.

Stephen Miller says nobody is going to fight the USA over Greenland.

Trump says he's going to have Greenland the easy way or the hard way.

Trump has repeatedly not ruled out military force.

And now he's ordering plans to be drawn up.

Congress cannot stop him in time. The military won't say no. Any general that refuses this order will be sacked and replaced with one who will. The SCOTUS will take forever to deliberate on it, if they do at all.

The guardrails everyone says constrained him no longer exist, if they existed at all.

Question - can they get a large enough force by air to Nuuk without Canadian, Icelandic or UK resources being involved? I mean, without air to air refueling coming from a base in one of those countries or having to land to refuel in one of those bases? Could the Danes not simply park vehicles across the runways to prevent planes from landing?
2nd question, does the US have enough capable ships to land a force in Greenland at this time of the year?
For all we know the Danes may have already landed their most Arctic capable troops onto Greenland.

On the conservative subreddit ("r/conservative"), a conservative posted their concern that militarily invading Greenland was on the table, and promptly got jumped on with every regular poster on that thread admonishing them for their position claiming that it was all bluster, it would never happen, and that any talk of military invasion of Greenland was nothing more than left wing media propaganda.

I saved the post so I could come back to it later with a very satisfying "You're wrong, bitches!", then I realized what that would mean...

I would happily be wrong but fear I may be right.

Those hoping Congress will curb imperialist aggression might be in for some disappointment.
It's as though his cronies lack any understanding of "cause and effect", or unintended consequences... Constant threatened annexation of a sovereign ally's territory is more damaging to NATO than Hungary and Turkey's constant foolishness combined.

A fine (no pun intended) individual-
“Fine has publicly identified himself as a supporter of Islamophobia, calling for the mass expulsion of Muslims from the United States, and stating that "mainstream Muslims" should be destroyed for their alleged refusal to make peace with Israel.”

“Fine formerly attended a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Melbourne. However, Fine quit the synagogue after allegedly threatening to "burn it to the ground" when the synagogue hired an LGBTQ+ employee.”

President of which country again? I think I may be starting to confuse it with another because they're sounding an awful lot alike.

"Because that’s what I feel is psychologically needed for success," Trump, 79, replied. "I think that ownership gives you a thing that you can’t do, whether you’re talking about a lease or a treaty. Ownership gives you things and elements that you can’t get from just signing a document, that you can have a base."

White House correspondent Katie Rogers — whom Trump recently called "ugly, both inside and out" for writing a story about his age — chimed in to ask, "Psychologically important to you or to the United States?"

“Psychologically important for me," Trump answered. "Now, maybe another president would feel differently, but so far I’ve been right about everything."

Trump also told the Times that he isn’t opposed to using nuclear force if he “needed it” to take over the Arctic island but that “it might upset NATO," since the island is a self-governing territory of NATO member country Denmark.

I mean… Nuuk is coastal. If they couldn’t take an initial ahead with SOF and Marine deployed by rotary wing from LHAs/LHDs, supported by a carrier strike group, then what’s the point of those assets existing? Once they got their initial airhead and could land C-17s… I imagine it would be hard but pretty doable. Actual resistance would probably be pretty limited.

Yes, but are those ships able to push that far north in January to be able to deploy rotary assets?

We'd never risk a CPF that far north in January, would we?

Might upset NATO.

Might.

Might explain the 2 month timeline.

But what about TACO?

But what about TACO?
TACO needs resistance.

Again, I think if the EU sends 10k troops to Greenland and dares the USA to kill them to take over Greenland, TACO kicks in.

It remains to be seen if Europe has the common sense and intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done and place troops in Greenland.

A military invasion of a NATO ally by Trump is the height of leftist fanciful hopes. It would justify everything in their mind.

It's not going to happen.

Will the US use coercion to get control? Sure. Influence and monetary means.

Holy fuck are you deep down the rabbit hole. The fact we're even having this discussion justifies the opinion of the entire Western world that isn't in the cult.

The height of "leftist fanciful hopes" is not the US invading a NATO member and shattering not only the alliance but the world as we know it, it's a return to fucking sanity.
