2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

A military invasion of a NATO ally by Trump is the height of leftist fanciful hopes. It would justify everything in their mind.

It's not going to happen.

Will the US use coercion to get control? Sure. Influence and monetary means.
So Trump drawing up plans and repeatedly saying he would leave the option of military force on Greenland is leftist fanciful hopes?

I don't know about others but it's a fucking nightmare for me.

Here's the thing. The threat has been issued. The only responsible thing to do now is to take it seriously and act.

Europe needs to send 10k or more troops to Greenland. I don't think even Trump wants the deaths of untold amounts of US and European service members on his record.

If the EU did this, watch Trump and co shut up about Greenland as the price to take it becomes way too high.

Holy fuck are you deep down the rabbit hole. The fact we're even having this discussion justifies the opinion of the entire Western world that isn't in the cult.

The height of "leftist fanciful hopes" is not the US invading a NATO member and shattering not only the alliance but the world as we know it, it's a return to fucking sanity.
Trump supporters: Believe Trump when he says he's going to do something.

Also Trump supporters: Don't believe Trump when he says he's going to do something.

Greenland better break out their bolt action rifles, make some snowcrete trenches, and get ready to shed blood for their freedom.

No.

Europe had better send their armies to Greenland.

There is no way that Denmark, a nation of 4 million, or Greenland, a territory of 57k should be facing a superpower on their own.

They are part of the EU and the EU should be taking the lead here.

Again, 10k European troops and dare Trump to try. He won't.

Wow, Putin must be laughing his ass off right now. Talk of Europe looking to send its already thinly spread troops as far as possible from the actual border with Russia in order to deter the invasion of a NATO member's territory from another NATO member. Tom Clancy couldn't come up with this crazy sh*t in his wildest dreams!

Deep thought.....is that what Trump's end-game actually is?

Getting Europe to take responsibility for Europe? Convincing them to put 10K troops on the ground to 'deter' the US would actually act as a deterrent to anyone else, and would start making Europe pay their own way in terms of defense spending.

At this point, I really don't know if Trump apologists, both at large but more specifically those on this site, are playing down Trump because they truly believe it, or whether they actually believe it, maybe even dream/hope for his more ridiculous aims to come true, but play it down because they know fully support Trump would not be taken well.

And when Trump says he's going to do something his detractors laugh and point out all the times he said he would do something but didn't.

That's how freedom in a democracy works. You need to be ready to fight and die for it.

Greenland should be taking this threat seriously and start digging. Maybe consider actually stationing troops there. Denmark has limited conscription, dust it off and test it out.

Fixed your post.

But I agree. Europe should be ready to fight and die for Greenland.

If this turns out to be posturing by the US hopefully Greenland increases their defence posture. Because you never know.

Deter Russia by moving a considerable force out of Europe and away from the Russian border to North America?

Is there really a serious threat of Russian or Chinese invasion of Greenland? Is a Russian invasion fleet going to pass through the GIUK Gap, around the southern tip of Greenland and into the Labrador Sea to take Nuuk? Or pass through the narrow Nares Strait (25km wide) between Greenland and Ellesmere Island? Traverse the NWP? And then somehow re-supply the force?

With Trump and his amped up sense of Manifest Destiny and the "Donroe Doctrine" would he even accept a large European military force in Greenland?

This sabre rattling BS against Greenland 100% detracts from deterrence against Russia. It will however cement the understanding in Europe (and hopefully Canada) that the US is not a reliable defence partner and we all have to take our own defence much more seriously.

Greenland...all 57k of them?

Stop being obtuse.

The EU is a collective, not a organization that sacrifices the weakest.

Same with NATO, we don't just abandon the Baltics because they are small.

The Europeans should step up. Not just Greenland, the EU. Together they are strong, divided they are not.

Remember when TACO was all the rage around these parts...

Whats yours is only yours so long as you're willing fight for it. The rules have changed for the rules based order.

The only good news is that if this happens the F35 is for sure dead in Canada.

If we do buy the F35 we need to follow Israels example and completely reprogram it. I don’t trust anything the Americans are putting out there for external usage especially after what they did with turning off Ukraines equipment.

TACO one hundred percent exists.

Trump backed down versus China when they didn't play along. Europe played along and Trump pushed further and further and here we are today.

Trump calls Xi strong, smart, he calls Europeans weak.

TACO implies pushback, offering opposition to trump. Naturally he's not going to chicken out if people just roll over and play dead trying to appease him.

What a shitty timeline where it being all posturing with this + manufacturing a friction point to justify pulling US troops from Europe is one of the more favourable scenarios

Russian's are currently cheering on and encouraging the US to jump off the building.
