Keep in min Stellantis had a shit heap of cash dumped into it as did the other plant in Ontario (with Ford partnering) and those deals still resulted in plant closures

Maybe three months if we bought strategic materiel depth in the form of wartime Ops Stocks (which would require real-estate, infrastructure, and organizations to support) and full SMP fleets (instead of SMP & MilCOTS mix). Add a LogStock for an extra week of production.

While to me as an individual four thousand pickups sounds like a lot of trucks and a lot of money, on five years replacement cycle that's 800 per year, or about three off the line every working day.

They also faired terribly in the TTC's multiyear trial of electric buses in Toronto. If course, New Flyers was the best. This is a study used by most Canadian and US transit authorities to buy electric buses.

How about the actual 227,900 real jobs gained by Canada from when Trump 47 took office in Jan 2025 to the present (Jul 26 - STATSCAN doesn’t have AUG 26 yet)? (20,986,900 Jan 25 > 21,214,800 July 26). Doesn’t Carney get at least a sliver of credit for that?

I did read somewhere that 59% of the numbers were from people who were declaring themselves "self-employed".

My take on what that means:

Self employment implies individual innovation and entrepreneurial engagement, which long term is better for national fortunes than 20,000 more precarious fast food jobs.

HOwever, that also requires national and provincial leadership to step up to support the innovation economy.
