EV's, Gas/Oil, and The Future- another swerve split from- JT Hints Boosting Canada’s Military Spending

I won't hold my breath, the majority of the smaller EV makers disappear after awhile, the cost of certification and creation of dealer/support networks sucks up lots of cash. I just saw that only 3 of the Chinese EV makers are making any profit and the government there had to order the companies to sell at production costs and no lower. For a lot of these companies, 1 recall can sink them.

They've had a bit of a run of them this summer, as I imagine have other cities. Not only are the batteries unregulated, e-scooters are illegal to operate in Ontario.

Platforms such as Amazon exploit a big hole in the regulatory market. A bricks-and-mortar retailer can't import or sell unregulated or uncertified products, but Amazon is full of them, particularly in electrical devices.

Interestingly, the last few small devices I got have Chinese certifications. And, unlike the NA and Euro certifications, these point to the specific clauses of the standards that they abide by.

I think Chinese producers are nearing the same inflection point that was experienced with Japanese exports in the 70s, moving from being perceived as lower quality to being recognized as better products than those made locally.
 
Chinese quality control and production quality is all over the map, some is excellent, others border on criminal. Here in North America we get their "good" bad stuff, the real super crap gets sent elsewhere.

I avoid buy electrical anything from Amazon but just looking at some of the listings some products look sketchy. I did order something a while back that showed it as UL certified but when I received it, nowhere on the product was the any indication of any certification.

This is Amazon's policy but I'm not sure there is any enforcement or quality control.

If a known brand name product (Dewalt, Apple, GM, etc.) is manufactured or has parts from offshore at least there is some level of customer service, warrantee recourse, etc., for better or worse. If you scroll Amazon listings, you will find the exact same listing repeated under multiple manufacturers, none of which anyone who has ever heard of.

I would hate to see what some other countries get.
