Informing the Army’s Future Structure - CAMO Discussion

Is that reg forces discussing buttons and bows?

Do the Vandoos still have a target on their toques?

😁

First time I've heard of Winnipeg described as a strong air port hub. Jokes aside the travel time difference is an hour.
I was being tongue-in-cheek, but actually its 2:10 Wpg to Edm direct. A bit less than Winnipeg to Ottawa 2:30 or Toronto 2:25. Winnipeg to Montreal is 2:45. No direct flights from Quebec City AFAIK. And 2:15 from Shilo to Winnipeg by road.

Winnipeg is about as close to the centre of the formation as you could get (albeit Valcartier, Kingston and Gagetown aren't easy to get to from anywhere as they need a change of planes)

One could also put Toronto into the mix as a hub with travel to Edmonton being 4:15 and Fredericton 1:50.

In any event you are several hours away from any ranges.

I used to have to go from Brandon to Ottawa at least once a month for staff conferences (in the days before ZOOM and TEAMs) and while the Air Miles were great I hated every minute of it (especially the TCH in winter)

I expect Edmonton is the cheapest location as to costs to create the proper infrastructure and the Div HQ's annual foray to an FTX location in the field.

🍻

Well, I mean they are exactly the same as before.
For 1st and 2nd Divs. Not so much for CADTC (which will shift from a WW2 Corps patch to an all new Div patch) and CASD (which will have a new Div patch).

I'll stand by on direction. I expect were going to try and ensure everyone can get through the tailors before we all adopt the 1st Can Div patch which will mean no Div patch on DEUs till mid November.
Yeah, the CA will survive with or without tinkering of the badges. This definitely should be a topic of low urgency and low importance, but it seems to be high importance and high urgency for more people that I would have hoped. CA still has a strong buttons & bows focus.

The opportunity to simply discard div patches was missed.

Well, a few people were confused when getting dressed today.

In other news going off Reddit 3 CLIR has caused the predictable level of confusion and speculation.

Hardly surprising. Without knowing what I know from this forum, I would assume there was a new regular force "regiment" in the CA and that the three 3rd battalions would be rebadging.

Or Bde patches.
Honestly pick one or the other.
I'll admit I'm one of those who thinks buttons and bows can matter but I've never understood putting anything on DEUs that had to be sewn on and later changed if someone was posted. It always seemed to me an overcorrection from unification approach of trying to kill identity. Formation patches, if needed, should be left to orders of dress where they can be attached with velcro and so easily switched. But that's just my civilian 2 cents. (While we're at it can we also get rid of name tags on DEUs? I've hated that since at least 1970 and never understood the logic. In all my career I never had to wear a name tag on my suit jacket, except at the odd conference and I hated those.)

Calling it a brigade while it has few to no additional supporting units (ie. is not a brigade group) would be perfectly correct.
Which raises the question in my mind as to why continue to call the CMBGs brigade groups at all if their artillery and CS units are being brigaded elsewhere and they are all part of a manoeuvre division.

Engineers are in the Brigade Groups still.

. . . and a service battalion and a field ambulance (kind of) and a signals regiment (which I tend to write off as a brigade HQ signals squadron) and the arty regiments (although they really are expected to work for 1 CAB). So yeah - they are still brigade groups seeing as 2 Div has virtually no divisional enablers right now anyway.

My take on 2 Div is that it's a work in progress a few bound behind the work in progress that 1 Div is.

The Arty Regiments are moving to 1st CAB.

There should be a 2nd CAB in 2 Div but baby steps.

Interesting that the Engineer Regiments (other than 4ESR) and the Support Battalions were not listed in the Divisional re-assignments in the Organization Message while pretty much every other CA unit (including bands) as far as I can tell were. Is there still some question as to where they will eventually be placed?
