    Living Quarters and Free Time

Like I said different people have different tastes, requirements etc. I'm an athlete, and the things they serve at the mess CAN do, but really are not ideal...WAY to much pasta/bread vs meat. Also lot of processing, does it taste decent...most days. But I would definitely not go on rations again...

    Running

In my opinion that's a cop-out. Getting troops together for a run is EASY, and requires little to no planning, at least in the runs the military does, where there is no quantifiable results to improve upon.  We just run for 45mins, no timed distance, no sprint work, etc...just kill time. Now on...

Need for a new Army dress uniform (Split from: Return To Old Army Officer Rank Insignia)

I don't wear the army DEU (air here), but I agree the light/mint green is horrid. My beef is fitting! They make DEU pants for skinny stick people...i've got big legs and rump from squats, strength training and bodybuilding and even going up 1-3 sizes up in waist, they are almost like spandex...

Fitness for Operational Requirements of CAF Employment ( FORCE )

Kratos you're right, basic does not lend itself well to maintaining strength if you have numbers above 300lbs, since you will pretty much do little to strength training during the whole time. Also you're right I went in at 210, and lost 15lbs, and thats even with trying to stuff myself whenever...

Old Naval Guard's Random Questions - Canadain Army since WW2

They still issued 82 pattern webbing in 2006 to recruits in Borden!

    Running

how's that...umm gee well how's about when ALL the pt you do is running, and you make long distance events mandatory for troops. When I mentioned people failing pt tests...I was speaking from PERSONAL experience...i.e WHAT I'VE SEEN...and what I HAVE seen is that most people fail at "strength"...

Physical Fitness (Jogging, Diet, Cardiovascular, and Strength )

lets agree to disagree. i'm also of the school of thought of no stretching before exercises...just a warm-up.

Physical Fitness (Jogging, Diet, Cardiovascular, and Strength )

You'd think, but not so many people are that logical.  I also wouldn't say stretching helps recovery. Unless you can do fascia stretching, I would say massage therapy would help more.

    Running

As much running as we do in the military for PT (read: TO MUCH) don't neglect your strength training, which is actually where I see most people fail their fitness test.

Physical Fitness (Jogging, Diet, Cardiovascular, and Strength )

In regards to "proper recovery" stretching is nowhere near the most important factor, nutrition and sleep/rest are.  You can do all the stretching in the world, but if you don't sleep/rest and eat like crap...you won't recover as fast.

    Living Quarters and Free Time

Its really up to your lifestyle, I have a dog, and I am not married or common-law, therefore they would not give me a pmq, and I don't like not having any control over what I ingest, due to being an athlete. Therefore for me, living off base was the best option, plus I get PRIVACY, and my own...

Requesting advice on joining our Army.

Don't know what kind of impact this will have on you, but my good friend went in to the recruiting centre today, to get back in the military, and apparently all the NCM trades are closed until next fiscal year, except subsidized education programs.

Sports in the CF, or rather lack thereof.

    1. I don't know what the whole tough guy comment was about, you guys are the ones, started the assumptions and basically putting me down, didn't know not putting up with other people's crap and wrong assumptions meant i'm a tough guy, or is that because I think there's more to PT then running...

Hey Mike...good job assuming facts not in evidence...i'll let you remember what happens when you ASSume. What do you know I never just DUMPED it on the LT, as you imagine, she actually mentioned wanting my input in planning out the PT, since i've been into fitness so long and what not. So we...

Sports in the CF, or rather lack thereof.

You can call it whatever you want, its the reality of the situation, i've brought it up to the LT, in a smart thought out way, and she didn't quite shoot me down, but it was kind of like, ok leave me alone i'll take care of it and do what i want. Crossfit is a sound base for training, if you...

Last time I checked Cpl's don't tell Lt's what to do.  Its hard to sell to the military in general that their PT system is horrible, when : 1. Lot of the higher ups are old crusty guys who were forced to run and bash their knees, so they want the next generation to do it too. 2. Your CSM has a...

Sports in the CF, or rather lack thereof.

I don't hate PT. I just think there are FAR better ways of conducting PT then just running (from someone who's been in the fitness/exercise industry for close to 10yrs, not just a punk) Also goes back to troop morale, i'd say the majority (at least 3/4) of my platoon would be a lot happier and...

I'm curious as to how I chose to have my knees hurt that bad...or how I chose what the CSM decides for PT....

I just want to go back to the excuse/argument of the 35-40yr old moms who are troops not wanting to get beat up doing Combatives training.  1. Its the military...you're bound to get beat up, muddy/dirty whatever sometime, suck it up. 2. What happened to the concept of soldier/rifleman first...

USMC and IDF train ALL their mbrs to a minimum level in their combatives, and some mbrs get to advance with training to higher/more advanced levels. I'm also fairly certain that the US Army does as well. Just to name a few.
