    Infantry Vehicles

It would be fine over open ground. But look in the background, there's a bunch of folks controlling it. That was the main job out the no2 on an IED team when the pedsco was deployed. We had a big, thick tether. They laid out in a specific pattern and made sure it went out and was recovered...

CAN Enhanced (Permanent?) Fwd Presence in Latvia

The trial was in 2001/2 and done with the Brits alongside Javelin. Javelin won the trial. I was on that trial. Javelin won. Did I mention Javelin won?

    Infantry Vehicles

I've used ROVs with a 100m tether, copper stranded, coax, and fibre optic. They require a lot of babying in an environment that isn't torn up by combat. When an automatic spool was available it was great until you had to turn a corner or move around a vehicle, or lamp post. Never mind doing a...

Climate disasters will be part of defence update as strains grow, minister says

We used to run three tiers of CBRN response training to all levels of government and types of first responders. The first course was online, the second was at their location and DRDC Suffield would send trainers. The third was live agent, scenario based training in Suffield. These courses...

    Updated Army Service Dress project

No And what are the consequences for not following Rideau Hall's regulations with regard to regular decorations?

Military Police branch will receive their new 9 mm service pistol in 2024: the C24

Seems around right. I was inspecting their ammo lockup in Gagetown around then and it was the shiny new thing.

What are you listening to/fav type of music

Shane MacGowen is dead. Bit a republican, but a great musician.

    Canada's tanks

Right now I see armour being a juice that's not worth the squeeze, same with arty. We have so little, and contribute even less it's not worth it. If we were at 1989 levels of equipment, sure. But right now ships and planes contribute more to sovereignty, and would also make the US happy, NORAD...

    Canada's tanks

Or maybe we focus on contribution to NATO being aiding in the securing of sea routes so the US can get (additional) material there in case of a conflict. Our regiment (battalion) tanks, or Bde (at the most) would be better served being 1 or 5 fully crewed ships or maritime patrol squadrons...

    VAC wait times

How does the Hearing go? I'm going to be having one sometime (soon?) and haven't heard much about the format. Do they come to you, do they just confirm what the documents say with you?

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023

Huh, I was born a Canadian citizen overseas to Canadian parents. Moved around a lot and didn't live in Canada until I was 15. Never did any of those things, prayers, national anthems, oaths, etc. If I hadn't joined the military I would never have sworn any sort of oath of loyalty. So, removing...

    Informing the Army’s Future Structure

Regarding giving very specialized equipment to generalists, I will give you an anecdote. Anecdotes are terrible examples but they are more truthful than manufacturer brochures. I supported around 20 ADATS launches. In 10% of them, the gunner forgot to turn on the laser. This was not caught by...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

I know everyone else in the room (myself, ER nurse x2, and doc) were happy to have the Chaplain there when we were FFEing human remains before flight. They chipped in with lifting body bags, and were the best person to hand the phone that started ringing in the deceased pocket to. I don't know...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

No offence, it's just using outdated definitions for a modern problem is not helpful. The last place a chaplain should be is in a chapel. They have to be out in their community. My wife is a RCMP chaplain and more than half her time is spent on ride alongs or meetings in coffee shops. Det visits...

Directives to military chaplains urge expunging God, religion from Remembrance Day, public ceremonies

Being married to an Anglican priest who is also a chaplain and a minister I can say that almost everything you have said is wrong. It may have been correct in the past but it is not true now, and that's all that matters when debating a contemporary issue.

    British Military Current Events

Worked with them a lot in Wainwright. The Brit AT and I would walk to the Milan firing point, sit down, and all of a sudden they would pop up from behind a hill, or lone tree, or tank rut, or anything not flat and drop off the Milan team. Only helicopter I got to fly, and land. Lots of fun.

    Business Class for TD Travel

I travelled on business quite a bit in my last job in uniform. This was due to taking long, long haul flights and having to work on arrival. Sleeping in pod crossing the Pacific or going to the middle east allowed that. If there wasn't funding for business the boss made sure there was funding...
