The Mountain and Ironman Merged Thread

Hello all, I'm doing MM09 and I have a few questions concerning the sandbag carry.  What type of carrying systems/rigs have people who've done it have used in the past?  Which ones worked out well for you and which ones sucked?  Just looking for some feedback, as this will be my first time...

Voluntary Occupational Transfer ( VOT )

The previous posters are correct, put in your OT now. If you wait to put in a memo they will laugh at you and say you should have done it in basic or in the PAT platoon you're in now because they've already invested too much time and money into your training. One other thing:  Make sure you...

for a SIG OP, which Infantry BN is best?

Hi Canadianmak, I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news here but just a little info for you: I just got posted off of my 3s at the end of November and the word there was that the postings are now exclusively HQ & Sigs, or under some special circumstances, JSR.  As for posting preference, you...

After you finish BMQ there are several paths: A) If you're combat arms. you'll get transferred to the PAT platoon of whatever Battle School your trade uses (ie. Combat Engineers get sent to the Engineer school PAT platoon at Gagetown, RCR-bound infanteers to the Land Force Central  Area...

Soldier Qualification Course (Questions & Answers)

Usually 2-3 weeks, sometimes 4 at the most.  There are also many occasions of troops doing their SQ AFTER they've finished their QL3's, simply because the 3s course starts before the next available SQ course, and the 3s course also have priority over SQ courses.  So you could be looking at...

    PRes SigOp training

ettibebs....unfortunately the IT training for regforce 3s is still useless...this is a CD...this is a floppy...this is how you use a mouse.....etc. etc. Most of it is sadly outdated too, and that goes for some other areas besides IT.

Taliban leader surrenders after he hears British special forces are 'closing in'

Or for Rahim to mysteriously disappear and for some new Taliban leader to coincidentally surface in Afghanistan a short time later. I really hope that NATO is pouncing on Pakistan to make sure this guy doesn't slip away.....

Why can't some civi's tell the diffenrce between cadet's and soldiers

During our BMQ in Borden our course went to a hockey game in Orangeville and it said the seats were all reserved for the cadets..... Its somewhat annoying I suppose, but who really cares?  Its not like theyre trying to slight you, some civilians just dont know the diffence is all. my 2 cents...

Soldier Qualification Course (Questions & Answers)

It depends on which base you get sent to do your course.  I went to Meaford and it was go go go, move with a sense of urgency all the time for the whole duration of our course, the inspections were also intense and our staff were always finding ways to make us work our asses off.  On the other...

Soldier Qualification Course (Questions & Answers)

I agree, 4 weeks is way too short a time to do that course....and so does everyone, right up to LFCA commander (who visited our course in Meaford).  From what I understood the army is trying to re-instate the 7 week SQ, as EVERYONE, from Pte up to BGen can see that the course is FAR too short.

    Any favourite BMQ memories?

How to be athletically productive in the morning??

At first it can be very difficult to get up and have energy in the morning...especially for those wonderful BMQ runs.  Speaking from experience, you will eventually adjust to the routine of waking up before the crack of dawn and going for a run.  I was definitely not what you'd call a morning...
