    The Khadr Thread

Perhaps Recceguy can explain his incredulity at JMT's assertion that the Supreme Court of the United States is not an elected elected body (unlike other levels of the US court system).  Please explain how a presidential nomination requiring senate confirmation is "elected"?  If you find the...

    RCMP prevent attack - 10 Aug 2016

Just to comment on an earlier post: while CSEC is legally barred from intercepting communications within Canada, no such restriction exists for CSIS, which is mandated to perform its duties within, and outside of Canada. CSIS is able to investigate and collect information on threats to Canada...

    CF-188 Hornet, Canada's jet fighter

Here are a few articles that address subjects discussed in this thread, for what they're worth: Of note, the USAF has been pipelining 'green' pilots onto the F-22 since 2008 - a similar F-35 pipeline seems plausible.  After T-6 Texan II training, and T-38 Talon training, new students fly a few...

    NDA reference

I'm finding this thread pretty interesting, as in the past I've wondered about who I'm actually addressing when making the declaration. If the RSO or officer conducting the exercise is female, is the Cpl addressed as "Ma'am" regardless of the Cpl's gender? If the RSO or officer conducting the...

    Canada's New Defence Minister

Interestingly, the MND's bio on the DND website refers to him as "a retired Lieutenant-Colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces and a combat veteran." If the minister is, in fact, now in the Supp Res, would he actually be subject to the CSD while on DND property (despite the fact that he is...

    Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP)-RMC 2000 - 2018 [Merged]

From an RMC standpoint, RMC has never offered fine arts degrees.  The Faculty of Arts does continue to offer B.A. programs in Business Admin, History, English, French, Economics, Politics, Military Psychology and Leadership, and Strategic Studies. Personally, I've never met a CAF member who...

Reactivation of 433 and 401 Fighter Squadrons (a split & merged thread)

It makes sense to me that neither 416 nor 441 TFS were reactivated since choosing only one of the 2 could have been seen as controversial.  It made sense to reactivate 433, as it had been rolled into 425, which continues to exist. Of the other CF18 Sqns, 421 "Red Indians" may not have been a...

Reactivation of 433 and 401 Fighter Squadrons (a split & merged thread)

401 Sqn it is.  It's on the 4 Wing website, but no mention of its reactivation. http://www.rcaf-arc.forces.gc.ca/en/4-wing/401-squadron.page

Reactivation of 433 and 401 Fighter Squadrons (a split & merged thread)

Thanks for the info ref 415 LRP.  At first glance, amalgamating MPEU and 14 SES seems to make good sense. Will be interesting to see what happens in Cold Lake.  Looks like all the mergers / deactivations from 2005/2006 are now undone.

Reactivation of 433 and 401 Fighter Squadrons (a split & merged thread)

Reactivation of 433 and 401 Fighter Squadrons (a split & merged thread)

From the RCAF website: 433 TFS has been reactivated at 3 Wing Bagotville.  No mention of 409 TFS or whether it will remain in Cold Lake in addition to a newly reactivated sqn, or if 441/416 will return. Also, 415 LRP Sqn is back, with a new 'Force Development' designation, whatever that means...

    All Things Richard Rohmer (merged)

I understand frustration based on a perception that resources are being allocated to window-dressing, rather than operational needs (pips and crowns vs. mukluks). I would question, however, whether an honorary appointment can really be considered as HQ growth, or realistically be seen as a...

    All Things Richard Rohmer (merged)

I will admit that I do not quite understand the animosity / anger towards this Honorary appointment (nor do I really understand the necessity of it).  The DND release very clearly states that the appointment has been made expressly to "recognize MGen (Ret’d) Rohmer’s contributions to the CAF,"...

    Senator Dallaire retiring from Senate

It was alluded to that Gen de Chastelain was an ambassador to the UN (see above quote) and I mistakenly took that to mean Gen de Chastelain was an obstacle at the UN, which is not what the OP intended.  Hence my clarification. Back on track: my opinion of LGen Dallaire has elvolved over the...

    Senator Dallaire retiring from Senate

For clarification, Gen de Chastelain was appointed Canadian Ambassador to the U.S. in Washington D.C. 1993-1994, not to the UN in New York.

Naval Officers Once Again to Wear the Executive Curl

I would say RNZAF.  RAF uniform has a black tie, and the tie in the photo is blue.  Also, RAF uniforms have a belt, which the uniform in the photo is lacking.

Military pushes overhaul of medal system

"Defence sources say one of the key proposals is the creation of an overseas service medal, similar to the Volunteer Service Medal given to Canadian soldiers who served at least 18 months away from home during the Second World War." To me, the above quotation reads as if overseas missions /...

They're baaack! Ceremonial Guard inspected by the Governor General

The gold/brown and green medal worn to the left of the GG's CD is the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. Also, the medics in DEUs are wearing the Military Personnel Command (headed by Chief Military Personnel) badge.  CFSTG is a subordinate formation of the Canadian Defence Academy, which itself is...
