The bigger issue is that by taking the initiative he was in violation of a number of departmental regs and potentially laws.  The jails are full of people who claim to have had good intentions and initiative. 

Is it a "horribly messed-up military procurement system" or is it a system imposed upon us by the government owing to overall government regulations?  I often hear how messed up our system is but I also hear how other departments have similar issues...they just are not the easy target DND is.

I was involved in working with a government forensic auditor for a while and he was billing DND like $30k a month for his services.  I can well imagine what the costs for 40 auditors would be.  Add to that the costs for Pam Wallin's and Patrick Duffy's files and I'd bet the costs to "catch" them...

Agreed.  My first posting was to Shilo and I had many visits to the RCA Museum.  I got to know the curator at the time and was able to get a glimpse behind the scenes at some of the stuff they had no room to display.  Fascinating for sure. 

I've visited the Museum twice since I got posted here and both times I came away thinking "meh, no big deal".  Parts of it were great but overall I wasn't too impressed.  Just me I guess.

Sitting there at my desk today reading this I actually started to tear up.  What a tragedy.  Thoughts and prayers for them and their families as well as their military family in Pet.

I'm sure his RSM and/or CO will be asking him exactly that question at their earliest opportunity.

Sadly I still have two of them buried away.  One from my old reserve unit and one from my first year in the regs.  A sad statement of the times.
