I've been in the shacks there on course; that sucks.  Greenwood isn't a bad area to live in though.  It depends what you're into I guess.

Comox is a nice spot.... but one year there was enough for me.   Spent some time skiing, spent some time on the Strait in the zodiac doing some diving..... but I didn't enjoy working at 407.

Aviation Systems Technician ( AVN Tech )

As WrenchBender said, your opportunities for specialty training will depend on the unit/section you work in.  As you become competant in your basic job function, you will find areas that appeal to you and will be able to request specialty training.  Subject to availability and your supervisor's...

    Comox Thread- Merged

The shift for servicing is 7 on 3 off 7 on 4 off.  There aren't any midnights, but they use an early shift to get the morning launches up... it depends on the flight schedule for the day as to when you're in.  Days 0700 ish to 1500 ish, evenings 1500  until 2300, unless you split down, these are...

Don't worry about your motivation for joining.... there are plenty of folks walking around in uniform who joined on a whim and picked their trade on the next whim.  I have no idea what motivated my peers to join, and I don't care.  Your performance at work will tell us all that we need to know...

Sound off: What are you doing right now? Aside from the obvious being on here..

The wife is going back to school... marine bio at Dal, and I'm still paying for a 4.5 acre lot on the ocean in Prospect that we'd like to retire on;  so I just grabbed a Q to keep monthly costs down and avoid any expensive repair bills for the next 4 years. I figure she'll just dump me for...

I just left Greenwood last summer....  spent 7 years there.  My wife and I both love NS and we're looking forward to the move.  I'm especially excited about getting the opportunity to do some sea time.  It's a new fleet for me and I'm looking forward to the change in scenery.

The military has a way of holding on to folks who get in with the intention of doing a few years and jumping back into civvie life. In any event, we can certainly use the help.... some of the young folks who get in with the intention of gaining skills and experience are among the most...

Disgruntled about current situation and need advice

I don't think you'll find much satisfaction on here...  I guess all you can do is grin and bear it. Good luck, it'll be well worth the wait once you're in.

Canada May Send More Troops to Afghanistan- David Emerson 26/July/08

I can't speak for the pressures that battalions at home face when they have folks deployed... but for us it's expected that we will carry out business as usual for the most part.  We're getting pretty light on quals and experience in the Aurora fleet and it's only going to get worse.  Pulling...

    Avionics Systems Technician. **Borden**

It is my understanding that 400 Sqn in Borden is largely made up of reserve technicians.  Give them a shout and see if they need people. I don't think you'll see any Cyclones in Borden.

I have served with an Iranian born pilot, I can't say if he faced any major hurdles during his recruiting process.... but it's been done. Good luck.

    Specialty Training

NDT is a separate trade unto itself, I believe the only trades that are eligible to apply are AVN/ACS/AVS. You'll need a minimum period of service in one of these trades before you can even apply for the transfer. I can't recall what the min time required is, but I've been told that 10 years...

http://news.aol.ca/article/nb-urinebottles/240754/   Hey folks... hopefully the link works, I've never started a thread here before.  I thought this would bring a smile to the face of any Trailer Park Boys fans on the site.  I couldn't find the subject here using a search, but I apologize if...

What to expect from life as an AVN?

Hi TDMS,   Your work schedule will depend on where you're employed.  In a first line servicing/snags environment you will almost certainly work on a shift ie- 7 days on 3 off 7 on 4 off, alternating from day to evening or midnight shifts within this duty cycle.  If you end up working in a shop...
