    FNG who's never deployed

I got a recorded warning for what I said as a personal attack, so you may want to check your means when you're insulting me. PS - Making coffee was only my secondary duty, but unlike most coffee-making captains it was for my friends and my subordinates; I actually got furious when my bosses...

Close Area Suppression Weapon (was Company Area Suppression Weapon)

You're missing the point. The same way a platoon already has 9mm, grenades, 5.56, 7.62, 60mm, 84mm, M72s, etc. A CASW/C16 is significantly different than a mortar and should not be seen in a one-or-the-other mindset.  Saying we can't have a mortar and a C16 in the CF is like saying we can't...

    The Congo (merged)

Too many African countries to keep track of, but in Sudan I know the big thing was that the UN wasn't even invited* and their government stated that any intervention had to be African-only troops. At least the Congo seems like it's more open to having larger external forces there.

Close Area Suppression Weapon (was Company Area Suppression Weapon)

The biggest problem all along has been that one does not have to be compared to the other. IMO, a mortar and grenade machine gun are no more alike than an artillery gun and a tank, and then saying since the Artillery gun shoots airburst rounds we don't need a tank anymore. The CASW/GMG/C16 is...

    FNG who's never deployed

I had a naked tunic for years, and yes I know it kind of feels awkward, but similar to virginity it's only a matter of time and before you know it you'll have a few. Maybe not as many as Technoviking, CD4, but you'll get your chance just like everyone else. Don't worry about Afghanistan, they...

    US military unveils heat-ray gun

A bigger political issue here which I am reminded of due to the mention of the lasers reared its head recently when the Infantry School's Weapons Fielding Team (one of my two subordinate cells, the Small Arms DP3A being the other) did the train-the-trainer package for the "Laser Dazzler" Visual...

    Military sterotypes?

Probably a combination of half truths they have heard about the US military, combined with half truths of Canadian cases where a married person does not pay rations and quarters while going through training (which IMO is BS and discriminatory to single people).

Virus-built wearable batteries could power military

No my good friend, it is me who owes you an apology if I did not express clearly enough that my post was tongue-in-cheek. I'm working on my posting style because it needs some help, ask anyone  ;) Of course I am all for any new battery technology...what I meant by my first post is that...

    US military unveils heat-ray gun

Another option from that Future Weapons show with the super cool ex-SEAL guy: LRAD Weapon (Episode: Future Shock) Loud, annoying noises have been a "weapon" at the personal level for millennia, but recently the world's security and military forces have been using a far more potent sonic...

Virus-built wearable batteries could power military

You're saying that there's a better solution than a soldier having eight different batteries and spares for eight different devices?

Class B entitled to gym membership?

All good points and I concur with many of them (B vs A, for example). At the end of the day, I am still not convinced that we should be doing things like this for reservists because in this soldiers eyes they are not equal (hear me out, again I started in the Reserves so I know both sides)...

Class B entitled to gym membership?

Apollo and N McKay, I'm not reserve bashing, I am just giving my opinion of what I think is a good investment and what isn't. There are plenty of Reservists who have sacrificed more than any of us have, so it's not about Reg > Res, but just that paying for every reservist to have a gym...

Class B entitled to gym membership?

When you conduct winter warfare do you only do a section attack once the snow removal equipment has blazed a trail for you, or do you snap on your raquettes and do what you can?

Medal of Honor (the game) Controversy

What is worse, playing as an insurgent who killed ~150 Canadians or playing a German in an older war game who killed 1,000x that many? I get the point though, they're saying it's too soon because it's still going on, but all great points brought up, specifically the GTA ones.  How is it that...

Class B entitled to gym membership?

IMO that's BS and a waste of money, and I started in the Reserves. It's one thing for a super base to have gym that everyone can go to, but if you don't live close to that, then welcome to the great outdoors for running and push ups.

    The Congo (merged)

While I certainly make no effort to speak for the CF or for anyone else, I strongly get the feeling that if Canada ever sends us on a blue beret mission like they did in the 90s (or earlier), they are going to get very different mission results. Even with oppressive ROE, I just don't know of...

    Aiming

Don't worry, even commanders with three full bananas on their epaulet do that...in your current unit no less (with a pintle though). My side!

    BMOQ Sept 2010

That is not at all applicable to what I posted. I was specifically talking about the most basic courses such as BMQ and BMOQ that are all elements and trades. Thank you for the kidney punch though.  ;)

tie strings & the fit of combat uniforms (Split: Need for a new Army dress uniform)

I can't for the life of me see why the parachuting part is mentioned. As has already been brought up, with the harness and the reserve chute clamping your shirt on you like a vice, not to mention your rifle and rucksack, there is no real worry of the shirt billowing and fluttering out of control.

    BMOQ Sept 2010

Yes I used the word "all", but immediately after that (in the same post), developed it further to state that I understood it not literally to be "every single one", but at minimum the common courses.
