    Why Not The Legion?

Ironically, I've just stumbled across a situation that's the exact opposite ... ! Troops are joining the local Legion, rather than frequenting the messes ... !! I'm told it has something to do with the Legion being open better hours than the messes, and a more welcoming atmosphere (plus, the...

    David Hackworth Dies at 74

Personally, I actually corresponded with Col Hackworth on occasion. In addition to his well-documented and undeniable accomplishments in uniform, he also spoke out, and his voice was heard and recognised above the din of the faceless careerists and bureaucrats.

    The Canadian Soldier

Hmmm ... let me think ... what possible use could proficiency at learning languages have in real theatres of operations ... I mean, after all, it was a piece of cake to talk in English to maliks (mayors) and mullahs (religious leaders) in A'stan ... NOT!! I haven't read this study yet, but I...

    Fallen Comrades Allied Forces

Lieutenant-Commander John Russell, who has died aged 88, lost a leg while acting as beach master during the Allied landings in Italy; more than 40 years later, he displayed notable dash in disarming a knifeman in an Exeter traffic jam. Russell commanded an elite Royal Naval Commando unit...

Oh, that's just so offensive ... (oh, wait - wrong thread ...)

Year of the Veteran & commemorative pin to be worn by all CF pers

Okay - I just finished reading all six pages of this thread ... and maybe I missed it, but ... Is there anybody else out there who would have preferred to have seen this pin issued to EVERY school child in Canada, instead of just the CF?  Wouldn't it have made more of an impact?  Wouldn't it...

    Kemosabe?

How dare you be offended that Aesop is offended that they are offended???  Now I'm offended. In order to save court costs, mail me money ... now.

The ability of a sovereign nation to defend/rescue its' citizens ...

This could eventually be a case study for our new SOG. Why am I reminded of that scene from "The Fifth Element" where Bruce Willis asks "... anybody else want to negotiate?" ... (but, then again - the Ozzies don't mention anything about negotiating ... they only mention "seek the release" ...)...

    C/CWO Bloggins, LSM, ACSM

First and foremost, I strongly disagree with your proposal. Post nominals are, should, and shall only be for those honours deemed significant enough that the recipient's name becomes inexorably linked to them (e.g. VC, CV, SC, MB, etc.) - it would dilute, or cheapen the meaning if this practice...

    Kemosabe?

I am so deeply offended by this woman's frivolous complaint and resulting lawsuit, I think I'm gonna ... snivel ... whimper ... sob ... finish this post, log off and return to the real world.  Long live Far Side!  ;D Fran Striker, who wrote the scripts,   was also the person who answered the...

Question for those in Highland Regiments

You are correct - there are presently no Regular Force Highland/Scottish regiments in Canada (but I seem to remember counting the Reserve ones, and I believe there are approximately 17 ...).

Question for those in Highland Regiments

I stand to be corrected (as usual), however ... I understood that "regimental" means one thing when HM attends the pde (due to an unfortunate incident in Victorian times ...), and something different when HM is not attending the pde. Aside from that, it's for a Highlander to know ... and...

    Man spits on Fonda

Well ... it would have made a great Molson's commercial ... http://canada4life.ca/videos.php?video=3 I've got more respect for guys who at least maintain some semblance of honour (i.e. can "dance" whilst balancing on thin blades of steel) as opposed to thugs who spit in a woman's face ...

    Why we need humvs.

Ah, nostalgia ... I remember the deuces (made in the 50's) when I joined in the late '70's ... (heck - never thought I'd survive to see a camo uniform, either ... but I had to wait 25 years ...)

    Man spits on Fonda

Agreed - "two wrong don't make a right". And, when you stoop to tactics such as spitting, it distracts from and degrades your position. "Drop your stick, Drop your gloves, and Drop your opponent" -- A favourite hockey tshirt

    Military's Acting Ombudsman Resign's
