Interesting and would need a few beers with the US guys to dig into this more. In the back of my mind though is also what many coworkers have said after deploying to other US states (I never have for clarity) is "god it's complex and the rules constantly change by parcel of land". You don't...
To be honest it looks more like a staging area which would also explain the number of fire engines/police either getting briefed on assignments/staff transition/holding patterns. But makes for good video to show that number of people involved.
Arson is always a problem. California also...
Thoguhts:
1) constant off shore/on shore winds daily known as the Santa Anas which cause updrafts/down drafts along the mountain edge. Frankly it's right nasty ground to fight fires in due to winds funneling/slope effects/lack of moisture. Very glad my department at least doesn't deploy...
Thanks FJAG,
Not at all up to speed on heavy armour or artillery. I've seen a few units on Avalanche duty in BC but mostly it's the old forts like the Halifax citadel where I see the guns. And black powder sure isn't what we dealing with in this discussion here. For reference the...
We have some off road ex-military 6x6 trucks converted to water tenders that occasionally get hired for wildfire support. They're good for about 40-50km/hr road movement but the oversized tires used to reduce ground pressure sure aren't travelling at highway speeds. Even high quality gravel...
California and the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for yesterday. While this is somewhat to be expected and is basically a mobilization order to expect a bad day there was some unique language I've never seen used:
"A Particularly Dangerous Situation". A polite way of...
First call out was yesterday. Does that count?
False alarms from jumpy public but not the first time I've had to drag fire hoses through the snow.
Joking aside I'm really happy we don't deploy to California. Looking at that mess going on in Greater LA and just hoping the fatality rate...
100% understand what you're saying here. And in fact its for that reason I believe it's why folks with the provincial response agencies should not be included in the eligibility list as their job is primarily focused upon that domestic response. That also includes myself as ineligible...
My experience with deployments - from a provincial perspective only - is you volunteer to go on the deployment....and while they are normally two weeks long it might end sooner due to weather or be extended depending on the situation. The days are irrelevant to a certain aspect as we tend to...
I'm not sure what you mean by EBGO ? It looks like Canada calls these Non-Combat Evacuation Operations (NEO) but many of them also seem to appear under the qualifying awards for the Special Service Medal...which is what I would think the HUMANTIS Bar is meant to acknowledge...
Part of the challenge of this exercise is each time I find out about one set of OPS more are found. You've also put me onto:
UGANDA 1972 - Uganda evacuations in 1972 to CFB Montreal
PARASOL - Albanian evacuations in 1999 to CFB Trenton
AEGIS - Afghanistan evacuations in 2021 - Overlap with...
Thank you all,
Will add them to my list. In regards to OP DOLOMITE I would not consider it normally as it was overseas which is what the SSM "HUMANTIS" award should cover...unfortunately when you start counting award dates from is also an issue. OP MAGNET would count for the Canadian...
There are quite a few more Domestic Operations added in here. I will be the first to admit I'm still missing many as I'm using Google vs. Regimental histories/Ship Logs etc. to add them all up especially as a person moves further back.
But for grouping of what OPERATIONS I clustered...
So after more than a couple of hours I've got a revised list of operations. The biggest challenge is there are EXERCISES and OPERATIONS to track which may or may not be used interchangeably especially when a person looks at all the different Arctic Operations.
I've also tried to indicate...
Hello ueo,
I'm slowly working through at home what I can find for references for past Canadian Operations within Canada. Part of the issue is that the further back you go the fewer the "named" missions occurred and instead were often done via much lower command deployments than the current HQ...
Will try to look up some more Operations based upon some comments made and provide an updated list. Also trying to source the number of CAF members involved...some operations have involved up to 16,000 CAF members.
Standby for updates next week due to field work this week.
