It's funny because of the half a dozen or so ATV fires I can think of being on spark arrestors were not even looked at....but the thick mat of grass around the exhaust pipes smoking from driving through muskeg or grass sure have started each one. Some were total vehicle losses....others just...
So something I've been pondering since the funding announcement news and the earlier discussion on the possible folding of the Canadian Coast Guard into the CAF umbrella.
When I looked at Canadian Domestic Operations in a separate thread there are two that stuck out to me:
OP FISHPATS - Support...
Understand the concern on the corruption side...but maybe that's not so much policing as strong rules and enforcement through INAC or CRA?
The bigger issue I see is a First Nation police member going into communities and someone assuming that First Nation is equal everywhere. Put a Blackfoot...
Fully aware BC processes are very different and more/different checks needed for different reasons. In Alberta most of the projects are based upon:
1. identify source (usually a hub) which determines size/future capacity consideration and end point.
2. Most engineering is pretty basic for...
Sounds like a lot of farmers out west. Hate the oil patch putting wells in the prime pasture....but sometimes that's the revenue that allowed them to keep the farm afloat.
Would need a couple of beers to get into responsible development vs. no development vs. full development.
I recall a bit of stink during a past election.
The now Premier if I recall walked up the stand and proceeded to outline all his past actions that normally would make him untouchable as a politician. Then outlined the changes he made in his life to put that process behind him. Then his...
100% agree. Not perfect...doesn't try to be but is honest where past wasn't 100%. More importantly speak well and is a positive mature voice and inspires people. I have no time for spoiled childern or zealots that only belive one way is possible regardless of political party.
Nisga is the anomoly as far as I know. But it's much more of a "modern" treaty vs. historic so there are many parts of it different. Will defer to your much greater understanding of that portion of BC as to how it's actually working.
To add to the Reserve/Regular Force retention options:
1) DAG green...regardless of Force....pay bonus. A fit CAF is a must.
2) SAR and Volunteer firefighters get the federal $6000 tax break. Locally it's one night a week training plus some weekend/specialty courses for the fire...
When I think of people I know...some of them in uniform....attitudes have changed. From high school drop out oil patch rig workers to very educated professionals there has been a change in last 10 years.
They are incredibly proud of the country...most of them have come from other parts of...
I figured we could call them the Lake class and start with the toughest names possible to spell...
Pekwachnamaykoskwaskwaypinwanik should be a good confusing one for Opposition forces to call out (it's actually a lake in Manitoba and that's it's Cree name).
Downside is I'd hate to see the...
Swan Hills, AB actually doesn't have much of break. Nice enough town just in a bad location to be protected from fires due to being dead center in the forest.
Also in AB - Loon River Reserve, Trout Lake First Nation, Chip Lake Reserve evacuated. Peers evacuated tonight. Mercoal and...
None of this is new....30 years ago they were making revenue sharing agreements for a portion of crown timber dues in the Red Lake area being funneled to the local First Nations. But only for mills north of X Latitude and no revenue sharing for communities south of the magic line
Hopefully...
So in the same 3 year time period the provincial population has increased from 4.43 million to just over 5 million...roughly 12.8 % population increase. Government of Alberta
Not sure where the GoA growth is coming from as at least locally I'm not seeing any growth in positions...and wages...
Thanks so much for the information. The Naval aspect is definitely the weakest knowledge point for me.
Those look like a great start...now to have enough to spare hulls and enough CAF members to man them as needed. Love the fact they should be a lower training need when compared to deep...
Again I wonder if it's not the time to look at the Rangers as not just ground forces but expand some numbers in key communities to add a limited maritime aspect. Not replace the RCN and definitely not to create a fully capable amphibious assault trade like the USMC.
Context I'm thinking is...
Following up on previous thinking:
This is an Australia design - 0.6m draft - that you might be able to move 1 or 2 vehicles with. But at 15m total length it might be fine for river transport but not really meeting ideal CAF needs...
I wonder how that would work for blue water vs. brown water situations. A modern version of a LST for artic unit movements could be great but I wonder about keel depth for use on something like the Churchill or Mackenzie rivers. Even the movement of fuel might require a shallow draft...
For context I think of 1991 Desert Storm but not unique to the Middle East. If Canada needs to deploy to support a Pacific country then we are looking at deploying a force...maybe that is the Latvia resources, maybe that is the training force units in Canada or in a totally messed up situation...
