To be eligible you must be a min rank of Mcpl (cdn rules) -If your unit gets a posn, you apply to get in. -You do not have to be a Pathfinder. -You must be basic para qualified. -You can wear the tab on DEU only. -Why would you want to do a mission with the Rangers??! They‘re not that...

    Decomissioning to the ranks

Personally, I‘ve never even heard of someone doing that. But why not, go for it. If that‘s what you want to do. You‘ll still have to do a bunch of courses though, since you‘ve been out for more than three years. Good luck, I hope it all works out!

    Last tour to Bosnia?

High hopes... There will never be a 100% Reserve BG tour. I doubt if the Reserves will even be able to sustain any more that three tours of just a company. They even had to recruit from the East to fill the two PPCLI BG that are in progress now...

Question for the Ex CAR members

When the Regiment disbanded nobody really went to new units. You either shut‘er down and quit or you went back to you parent unit from whence you came. A handful of people re-badged to the RCR so that they could stay in Petawawa. What remained of 3 CDO formed the Airborne Holding Unit (AHU)...

    CAR Reunion

We (RCR Para Coy) would like to be able to send a platoon to the reunion if we can get the authorization and the transportation arranged. It‘s a lot of talk right now but there‘s still plenty of time between now and P hour.

Joint Task Force 2 (JTF 2) - Canadian Special Forces

The RCR is full???!!! What a load of crap. We have guys getting out, OT‘n, and even re-badging to PPCLI every day. The recruiters always seem to be living in a parallel universe or something...

    issued firearms

How refreshing! That‘s right Doc, tell it like it is! It‘s good to dream though. Everyone‘s got a dream. Hooah!

    issued firearms

I only use the Iron sights for the C7, the optical is nice but it loses it‘s zero far too easily. Our *special* C8‘s have the rail system in place of fore-stocks where lasers, flashlights, and yes, an extra handle can be placed. It‘s just the extra handle from a C9, it just screws in.

    Packing a Ruck

Sure, I used to use garbage bags for the main compartments. I learned some lessons. In my battalion we get issued ruck liners like the Americans(but they are the old type?) I bought some of the stronger rubber lined ones at a surplus store in the states. All of my kit in the main...

    issued firearms

Our Recce platoon used C8‘s. In Bosnia on my first tour, I was issued a pistol(as a Pte) All ranks from Section 2 i/c up were issued pistols on both my tours in Bosnia. In Canada 2 i/c‘s and up can carry pistols, but usually it starts at Pl Commanders. Also the 84 mm gunner usual carries a...

    Packing a Ruck

Of course EVERYTHING in your ruck should be waterproofed in it‘s own individual bag. Extra warm kit if you‘ve got the room. A bunch of chocolate bars for the absolute worst part of your day when things couldn‘t suck more! Definitely some medication i.e. painkillers, decongestants. And if...

    a weapon question

Oh yeah, 7.62 gets heavy fast. The average rifleman carries about 300 5.56 rds(7.81 lbs), when the #2 on a C6 may carry as much as 5 belts of 7.62 (1100 [email protected] lbs+link) along with his 5.56 and pers weapon. And usually the belts are all in a nuke bag, which by the way gets trashed in the...

    Packing a Ruck

Of course there are some basics‘, but really it‘s all up to you. It will all come with some experience. Most units have a kit list for garrison and for those people who don‘t have a clue. Myself, I have certain things that I like to pack for climate or location/terrain. However, more times...

    Input on being a paratrooper

Your lucky that‘s all I said. I had a PI sitting beside me when I typed that and he thought I was too nice. He‘s taught on the Cadet course and practically has every course that is taught at the CPC. Heaven forbid that a Cadet could do a course that is actually worth something.
  17. Doug VT

    Badger Down

The course is pretty rough, a lot of people flunk out on navigation in the very beginning. PPF is definitely NOT a prereq to SOA, although I‘m sure that it‘s an asset. Not much to say about the mobility job though, it‘s all about delivering the assaulters to the objective, they just learn...

    Input on being a paratrooper

Also about the "Cadet" thing, the course couldn‘t be made easier if they tried. Of course they should keep their wings, it‘s a national qualification. You‘re just whining because you don‘t have your wings. Grow up. What they teach at the school is how to rig your kit, don your equipment...

    Input on being a paratrooper

Yeah Gord, lighten up on the guy. He‘s just a little excited about the whole idea of being "Airborne". I rather do enjoy military parachuting. I have never been nervous, right from jump #1. Also been lucky enough never to get hurt although I‘ve seen some pretty painful "accidents". I‘ve...
