Well, if we're trying to send a message about being aligned under the British Imperial banner, sure. But if we want to be our own people who maybe want to go forward not celebrating the problematic parts of our history, we could consider something different. It's about the message we want to...
Death to the bowler. 😂
I used to advocate that we in the army should all have the peaked cap because nothing is grubbier looking than someone wearing the same beret with DEU that they wear with their combats. And the berets are all formed differently depending on your trade, unit, who taught...
I agree with you on this. You've made similar arguments to mine. The only thing I would add is that we should maybe be interrogating what professionalism does and should look like. Fashion and society also take their cues from the military. I can't recall where I read it (I think it might have...
Yes, we are all still colonisers. That's not going to change anytime soon. And yes, I did know that the boots are the Strathcona Boot.
My point was that it isn't surprising for the RCMP to have the same struggles with uniforms that the CAF does since they come from a shared history. The RCMP...
Well, that's a question I've been considering. Operational clothing and Non-Operational clothing are completely separate things now. The Ceremonial dress you refer to is even more steeped in masculinities and colonialism than the service dress.
The pervasiveness of western masculine standards...
You're not taking a full equality stance. You're saying the standard should be only one thing, which ignores a plethora of other factors. Fun fact: The FORCE test that so many like to denounce does in fact have a lot of common features to things we actually do in the CAF. When deployed on a Navy...
Have you read the dress instructions? It's certainly supposed to make a statement:
1. A military force’s uniform is an outward symbol of its commitment, identity and ethos. Coupled with overall appearance, the uniform is the most powerful visual expression of pride by the individual service...
That's because the new Army DEU is due out in 2026, and I hear they no longer get the rifle green gabardine (this refers to the textile not the long, winter coat). You won't see more DEU items til the new stuff arrives.
This kind of swapping out of mil kit for civ kit is possible with black... I don't see too many dress pants in CF Rifle Green. And I doubt there are many that will precisely match the olive or khaki or whatever shade their using on the new CA DEU. Personal problem, I know.
In the not long ago...
more than a few, including colleagues who went to the hill. It's not something I've made up. My boss pointed it out at the airport once. He said there's a very specific look that stands out, especially if you know the look.
The RCMP has a legacy very deeply steeped in colonialism (NWMP) and the Boer War (where the NWMP became a big part of the Lord Strat's). So, it is very unsurprising they would have all the same issues with gendered and colonial dress that the military does. But they didn't magically solve the...
The problem with that line of thinking is that the "one" order of dress is the men's. And women and gender diverse people are supposed to just be okay with dressing in a "mannish" uniform (Enloe, 2000, p. 263). Let's imagine the women's order of dress as the "one" order and see if the men like...
I don't know if Operational dress at NDHQ etc. is going to stay. Some have hinted that it was because of a lack of uniform availability. Given than Logistik is scaling back on DEU because the new Army DEU is arriving in 2026, that's probably why. And they couldn't just say Op Dress for Army...
More often than you'd think since cubicle lands (like NDHQ) are also where a lot of ceremonies and events happen that call for 1As. Since the tunic with medals instead of ribbons is all it takes to go from DEU 3 orders to DEU 1A, it's quite common for people to have their tunics in a suit bag in...
I'm super late to this thread party, but I'm doing an undergrad thesis on CAF uniforms, so I'm "researching". Ref JTF2 blending into ordinary society, I have to laugh. SOF has a "look" that stands out even in civies. Maybe someone should tell them they don't have to wear tactical pants all the...
If you weren't given any info upon selection, you could always call/email to ask. If you aren't starting until Oct, they might send you info closer to the date. But don't take my word for it. I always seek the info I want rather than waiting for it. I wouldn't want to get lost in the system
