The Conservatives talk a good game but, while I'm sure there are many that honestly respect and appreciate the military, take a look at their inaction in cleaning up VAC and bringing back disability pensions. Where the rubber meets the road, it's all about the dinars not duty. However, it is...
The terms rural and urban realy are relative. Here in the Yukon, we have a pop. of approx. 33k, 28k of which live here in the capital Whitehorse. In the communities, Whitehorse is "the big city" but, you're never more than a 5 min. walk away from the bush and there's all kinds of wildlife...
I suspect this kind of thing happens more often than we're led to believe. My brother and I were in the same unit, and our medical files were intermixed. This can have terrible consequences when one applies for a pension or payout.
Of course, this was the same unit that put a document in...
I realize this is an old thread but, I would like to point out that the Legion is not a registered charity - it is a not for profit organization (big difference). It does not receive GST rebates. The Poppy Fund is not a registered charity either (hence no receipts for tax purposes) but a fund...
In Afg our operations took place in the mountainous regions of the country and the green cadpat fit right in to the rocky, scruby ground.
I recall being in a firebase on a mtntop covering another spur approx 400m away where a force of Cdn & US troops were moving into posn and the Americans...
Thanks for the info,
The badges were dropped off at the Legion for me by the soldier's father. It was a gesture of thanks for sending him care packages during his tour. I have mounted them in a picture frame and will hang them in the Legion.
Hi Folks,
Did a search on yahoo & this site - Couldn't find anything.
What is the Kandahar Cigar Club?
The reason I'm asking is: I received as a gift what appear to be 2 unit badges from someone who just returned from the sandbox. The first badge is a OMLT/ 1/205 BDE...
I should also mention that at the last day of the program a program of support and a support group is set up for everyone. They don't leave you high & dry. For example, they are setting me up with carreer retrg and other help, and the members stay in touch.
A little late, but a report of my experiences with VTP:
The VTP came up to Whitehorse in late Oct last year. It started with an intensive 3 day session, another 3 day session about a month later, and a 2 day session a couple weeks ago. They have told us that they are going to run it now two 4...
Here's a story:
I am a member of the branch executive committee for the Whitehorse Legion. One day I received a call from a lady whose father died. She said her dad was a WW2 veteran, and the family would like a military funeral for him. Since we do many military funerals...
For what it's worth, the old school dog mushers here in the Yukon wear bunny boots on the trail. I don't know if it is because they are easier to get here or, if they are easier to get because the mushers wear them.
The program this article is talking about is called the Veterans Transition Program and is funded by BC/Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion. My branch has given $10 000 to this program from our Poppy Fund. (now you know where the money you put in a poppy box goes) This program is...
I've got one.
In the early 90's there was a rumor going around Bn that a hydro company in BC had bought some M113s for offroad duty and were looking for qualified drivers.
