Both eyes are open so you're not losing any peripheral vision. With iron sights at close range all you have to worry about is the front site, with a Short Dot/Eotech/Aimpoint just keep your eyes open.
Kev, isn't Chuck advocating thumbs forward on the VFG as well? :P I've made the switch.
I've yet to see any of the 5.45 Soviet weapons in Iraq. Iraq was producing its own 7.62x39 weapons in some quantity and never adopted 5.45. I'm sure there's some kicking around from Uday's collections, but none were issued AFAIK.
On your budget a used CZ75 is a good choice. Sometimes you can find a Glock 17 for around $600 and it's a solid pistol.
Honestly, without some proper training (NOT CF), you're just going to be teaching yourself bad habits. Save up a bit and attend some decent training, even an IPSC Black...
Yeah, I forgot about that interview. He's a good guy. From what I understand he requested afterwards that it not appear....and they didn't comply. There were others interviewed who are not so credible.
The preview seems to suggest that the movie will show the bad side of contracting. To me it looks like they found the worst guys in the industry to appear in the film. Most contracts forbid contact with the media, and even if they didn't I can't imagine any GOOD operators who are willing to go...
Apparantly it was a painted training claymore or non-lethal claymore that was mounted as a joke. Some commander went overboard and passed down the order saying not to use them on vehicles.
I like the 1 piece because of it's loose fit, and its easier than putting on pants AND a shirt :P We just wear duty belts with our drop legs and don't have any problems.
Why not just buy 1 or 2 piece US issued Nomex tan flight suits? I don't see any need for testing, the design works. The only improvement I could suggest is pockets on both arms.
Suprisingly it's the rifles we've had some problems with. Things like a gas tube sheared in half, bolt carrier cracked and siezed inside of a reciever, etc. Problems you wouldn't expect from a rifle that retails for 3k in Canada.
This was what year? I've yet to see anyone carrying a MP5 outside the wire besides Brit security contractors who missed out on the Iranian Embassy siege.
US soldiers blinded to the difficulty of sniper work? They are the ones out there doing it everyday so I'm not sure how this comment makes...
After the initial invasion there were some troops using the AK out of neccesity. Many units were tasked with infantry jobs but did not have the weapons to do the patrolling. For example a vehicle crew may have only been allocated 2 M4s and 2 pistols. I have only ever seen one US soldier using...
Great post JANES. I had completely forgot about this:
"Tk aren't that great at stopping lower leg and forearm bleeds as the vessels travel between two bones. That doesnt mean you don't attempt to apply them there. A way to add advantage when placing them distal to an extremity joint is to...
When on the road I wear a nomex flight suit, nomex gloves, CarbonX hood, underwear and socks.
Anybody riding in a vehicle in Iraq/Afghan should consider wearing fire resistant clothing. At the very least try to stick with cotton instead of mixes.
CarbonX is vastly superior to Nomex. It can...
Don't worry, they are real. I've used one from the same lot and it worked.
The Danish TQ was tested by their SF, good enough for me.
Wearing TQs is becoming a more common practice over here.
The tape gets used for other things. The inventor of the Danish tourniquet is a friend of mine and he says it works. That's the feedback hes got from the guys it's been issued to. I like it because its lightweight. I wear two London Bridge Trading ratchet straps anytime I'm on the road...
Half finger gloves are retarded. You need to protect the part of your fingers that pulls the trigger...
If you're operating around vehicles get something thats made of nomex, not baseball/MEC/golfing/whatever gloves. You can also buy a CarbonX flight glove now if you really want to keep your...
