    emergency preparedness

My skills: getting my butt to the base in the event of disaster, which is the only thing required.  Wine making and farming- great, put that on your brag sheet, but in the mean time report for duty and keep manning that AGA.

UVIC threads on Recruiting, Protests & Students against War

This isn't new- the UVSS banned the military from the SUB previously.  I think it was in around 2000 or 2001.  I was a student at UVic at the time.  There was a real furor over the fact that recruiters had brought in some swag to display, including dummy munitions and/or inert weapons. I don't...

    Problems with Canadian Military I.D.?

Here's a weird thing that happened to me at the Canex in Kingston a while back: I went in to buy a pack of smokes and presented my BC drivers' license when the clerk carded me.  She said there was no way she could sell me the cigarettes.  I asked why.  She said that she could only accept...

    Taliban terrorises RAF families

I don't doubt that some genius will try it, but we specifically prohibit personal cell phones for exactly this reason.  That's why I was surprised to see the British let their guys use cell phones up to this point.

    Taliban terrorises RAF families

I'm surprised that was ever tolerated in the first place.  Disallowing the use of personal cell phones is pretty much a no-brainer.  DND-issued cell phones are a big can of worms as well.  There is nothing particularly sophisticated about this kind of intercept at all.

    Running

You should be extremely concerned. Of course they are, a 5K run is nothing, especially for infantry units.  3K is not going to cut it at all. Yeah, no doubt.  Sounds to me like you need to take this a lot more seriously.

    All Things Socks (merged)

I wear SmartWool religiously, as I find it to be absolutely, hands down, WAY better than anything else I've ever tried when sitting around in a nice safe place like Canada.  I do have a question though: Do any medics on the board have anything to say about SmartWool or similar fabrics and their...

Field Dressings : Is there any expiry?

Would they possibly have a negative effect on someone with a severe shellfish allergy?

There's nothing Gore-Tex about those socks at all.

    Comm Res No More?

If there are enough legitimate SME's within a Gp to make that work then sure, but as I said, I know of less than 10 guys in our whole organization who I trust to really teach that stuff properly.  If there are more then I have yet to meet them.  I'd prefer to see those guys get identified as the...

    Comm Res No More?

Just to clarify one more point, there is/was no compressed trg requirement.  The QL5 that's done within F Sqn is the same as the one done in B Sqn, i.e. it's now a "Total Force" crse, same for Reg and Res.  That became the case last year.  You're probably thinking of the fact that the courses we...

    Comm Res No More?

If you mean that the Reg F students get an NCCIS Lt qual in conjunction with their 5's then that's not correct.  F Sqn is the only one that does that. And the NCCIS Lt Qual we gave, last year, is not the same as the real NCCIS Lt crse.  It was a trg session, based on a draft CTP, for which no...

    Comm Res No More?

I missed this before.  I think you have a good idea on the face of things, but it's more complicated than you let on. First off, the NCCIS gear that is in place in reserve units isn't easy to use.  A lot of our guys think they know what's going on with it, but they're wrong. Asking the units to...

How to draw kit not held at your local bse

Well then why don't they order it for you? I draw kit from Esquimalt too, and while it's sometimes difficult to get Army stuff there, it shouldn't be impossible.  Considering how much time you have before you're going to need cold weather socks and whatnot, this should be an easy one.

What's the PAM that has callsigns in it?

92 is the Adj according to ACP 125.  If you need to order some, PM me and I'll give you the contact info you'll need.  However, a better ref for C/S is B-GL-332-001/FP-001 USOP & TAM, Vol 2, TAM 204, which lists the Universal Fixed Callsign System.  It's more current than the Fixed C/S layout in...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

What are these supposed to be for?  We already have the WWB, we're supposed to be getting the temperate combat boot, and now these as well?  What do these bring to the table that isn't covered by the other boots, and under what conditions are we supposed to wear them vice one of the other models?

    Manitoba chiefs want cellphone revenue

Most of the RF radiation that "passes through" any point you care to name is not man-made.  Are they going to sue the sun for infringing upon their airspace?

Comm Res being absorbed by the Army?? Yet again??

Well I for one am not of the opinion that having the Comm Res separated from the Army is a good idea. TCCCS is an excellent example of the reason we need to be part of the Army.  My understanding of the TCCCS fielding process is that the kit that was originally intended to go to 4 Bde ended up...

Canadian Forces Aptitude Test (CFAT) [MERGED]

On the plus side for xtreme, someone sure should tell him that CFAT be damned, he qualifies to hold high-level positions in NDHQ based on his ability to find an answer in search of a problem. Top marks for being able to come up with a cumbersome, labour-intensive procedure to solve a problem...
