    Ruggedized, portable field printers...

No one can or should expect anything but a hammer to work properly after having being used as a hammer. The biggest lesson I've learned about electronic devices is that the only way to ensure reliability is to carry spares.  Ruggedized or not, field use or garrison, spares = success, no spares...

All things GPS (recommendations, tips, etc.) - merged

The fact that we now have a GPS unit that offers greater user friendliness than the PLGR is fantastic.  Not only does the DAGR have equally good or better bells and whistles type features as compared to most mid- to low end civvy GPS units, but the military- specific features it offers are...

    How to Pack Sleeping Bags

How about this for an idea? Ask your freakin' section commander! Your profile says you're on BMQ.  If I were your BMQ section commander, and I found out that you were taking advice from the internet rather than coming and asking me, it would not be a good day for you.

Anthony Klumpenhower Killed in Afghanistan Accident-18 April/2007

Sh*t.  I lived in the same mod as this guy in the shacks in Kingston while I was at the JSR.  A good fella.

I've got to figure this thing out on short notice and have no local ref material or SME to help me.  Any unclas manuals or lesson plans that anyone has and could forward to me would be most apprectiated. Just to show that I'm on the up and up, if you PM me, I'll send you my DIN account.  You...

    Tac Vest: What's this?

It is a lens holder. Undo the velcro all the way.  Now inspect the tab that the velcro was wrapped around.  If you look very closely, you'll find a tiny pocket that's just big enough to fit a mini-maglight lens into.  By re-wrapping the velcro around the tab you cover the pocket opening...

    Sig Op QL3's

2 seats per Reg F serial held for Reservists.  That's been the policy since last year. Good initiative, but that's impossible.  Notwithstanding the fact that you've gotten some good info from this thread, the internet is not a career management tool.  Getting loaded on the course you want...

Join the regular after being in the reserve

Nope.  Read the above again. Who you know is irrelevant.  Unless you're best buddies with the Career Manager, knowing individual people isn't likely to count for anything.  At least not from what I've seen. What matters is whether the Reg Force considers your training and experience to be...

All things GPS (recommendations, tips, etc.) - merged

Set it to MGRS-new, 100 meter and check your local map to see what datum to set it to.  You can't always use NAD 27- it's dependent on the map in use.  It'll now give you a 6 figure grid.  Hopefully you'll be ok from there.

Join the regular after being in the reserve

Nope.  What matters is not who taught you, but rather what you learned.  Reg Force and Reserve courses are often based on different training plans.  Different TP= different course= you may have to do the Reg F one.

What trades are fighting units, and what aren't?

Off topic perhaps, but there are Sig Sqns, Sig Regts, Comm Sqns, and Comm Regts.  Whether something is called a Sqn or a Regt is not about what it does, but what size it is.  A Regt is bigger than and contains Sqns as sub-units.

    Ruggedized, portable field printers...

We've used all sorts of printers in the TTCC, none were especially special.  All were run of the mill printers that could just as easily be in any office on the base.  I don't know what the JDC is doing differently now, if anything, but I'll ask tomorrow at work.

    Ruggedized, portable field printers...

I think there are two main questions to answer before you start: 1- Are you going to go and buy these with the unit acquisition card?  In my experience, any time you try to make a local purchase of IT resources of any type you get your wrist slapped.  DND has existing contracts in place to...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

Hey, what can I say, I worry about these things.  I'm clumsy, and that slippery old sole caused me to spend quite a bit of time on my butt.

    PLQ MOD 6 INF

Everyone does Mod 6, not everyone does Mod 6 part II.  Mod 6 is leadership theory, small party tasks, and other stuff that made up the core of the old JLC course.  Again, everyone does it, to include Air Force and Navy.  Mod 6 part II is roughly equivalent to the old JNCO, although much shorter...
