"Why I preferred the Navy, from a culture POV."

I really don't think that "accommodates functional alcoholics" is really all that much of a benefit. Certainly doesn't benefit the Navy, and I'd argue it also very much so didn't benefit the members either, what with the whole manner in which it led to alcoholism getting worse not better...

"Why I preferred the Navy, from a culture POV."

Tradition is just peer pressure from dead people, and also apparently alcoholics.

Guarantee that number's not reflecting folks whose medical issues have rendered them incapable of deploying.

    Reconstitution

Service before Self is a concept that is absolutely necessary... on operations. When a missile's inbound or bullets are flying, you need to expect everyone will do their duty. It's not, however, an excuse to get people to work themselves to death (or divorce) just because the department can't...

Sure. And they're paid accordingly to do so, on a full time basis. Which means that whatever home units those folks used to work for, who aren't paying said Class B folks anymore, shouldn't have any real expectation of getting any work out of them. It's a very weird expectation that many...

Allowances - Post Living Differential (PLD) [MERGED]

Total force reduction is obviously happening; the real question is if we actually acknowledge that's the case and reduce the total amount of stuff we're trying to do correspondingly.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

Honestly, Honestly, I think we really need to be frank here; in many cases the Chiefs are the leadership problems causing those "lower deck concerns". Relying upon layers and layers of of people in a strict hierarchical organization to properly pass along information that makes them, either...

    New Dress Regs 🤣

I'm confused. Dude has curly hair, and for some reason people are freaking out?

    New Dress Regs 🤣

Oh yeah totally. There's only two people whose opinions I really give a hoot about w.r.t. my hair; mine and my wife's. Fortunately, she loves it too.

    Updated Army Service Dress project

The entire concept of a seperate set of uniforms only for the "lower deckers" is basically the last bloody thing we need. The whole "Navy is an aristocracy" thing is abhorrent to everything we're trying to achieve with culture change, while putting the Jrs back in Square Rig would only serve to...

    New Dress Regs 🤣

Nope, been some shade of purple since day 1. (Here's the exchange in question). Althought admittedly with the stuff I was using pre-xmas, it faded to a pinkish fairly quickly. Might throw some red or orange or blue into the rotation, but I think purple will likely remain the main colour.

I mean, what do you say to that though? "Don't worry it'll get better"? Well, no. This was actually a clear sign that the government isn't at all interested in actual improvements for CAF members.

Yes; that's how I've adapted to the new regs.

For what it's worth, I definitely get the impression that would be a very unpopular change.

    New Dress Regs 🤣

Well, I've found a brand of dye that seems to hold better than the stuff I first went with; lasted a good 9 weeks before I felt the need to re-dye. Nice vivid purple. May switch up colours when that tube is expended.

But of course if you're going to be doing that, it also helps to have a bunch of experienced people to figure out what exactly it is that we're able to cut from our business model, what can be adapted to be more efficient, what needs to be kept, etc. Unfortunately, they all just quit.

Allowances - Post Living Differential (PLD) [MERGED]

The aspect of these changes that boggles my mind the most is that it directly negatively impacts the most the people who are in the rank levels where we're already bleeding personnel the fastest. The missing middle is about to become a hell of a lot more missing. Especially in Halifax and Esquimalt.

    Reconstitution

Honestly, you start your comment about the narrative and messaging, but the bulk of the things you're talking about aren't really things that we need better messaging on. They're just massive problems we need to fix. Marketing alone can't fix systemic institutional problems. At best it might try...

    Reconstitution

Chicken or egg situation isn't it? The pool of people willing to join largely isn't going to decide to join until after we reform the institution to be welcoming to them. We can't whinge about how they don't want to when that isn't the case. The institution needs to take the lead in making...
