The latest installment in the eternal USN SSN vs. SSK debate

Where does the 1000 mile limit come from? Even if an SSN skipper was willing to get his inlets that close to the muck on the bottom, how do you avoid damaging the bow array?

The latest installment in the eternal USN SSN vs. SSK debate

Why do you believe that an SSK requires a tender to deploy with it?  Name a single western nation that deploys tenders with their SSK?  SUBPAC had a number of forward deployed diesel boats [USS Barbel (SS-580), USS Blueback (SS-581), USS Bonefish (SS-582), and others] in WesPac without tender...

Naval Officers Once Again to Wear the Executive Curl

Posting it seems reasonable to me.  That doesn't mean that the OPI will accept 'advice' from emails signed "[email protected]" etc but it is certainly an effective (and 21st century) way to get the message out.

    G8/G20 June 2010 Protest Watch

Police didn't recognize his 'alternate" media badge?  Shocking!  I wonder if the police will also not recognize alternate drivers licenses?  ;D

Naval Officers Once Again to Wear the Executive Curl

Why would you assume that they're going to ballpark it?  Collecting the 'days at sea' per ship is the easy part (and has been reported elsewhere on navy.ca as having been done already). Sorry - I misread this to think that you were talking about how to "compile everybody that were on board " and...

Acting Sub-Lieutenant and up.  Not sure whether this applies to mess kit or not.

Naval Officers Once Again to Wear the Executive Curl

I don't disagree with you but it's not like we're firing a rocket to the moon and it needs to be 100% accurate down to each time somebody took the blue boat between FDU(P) and Esquimalt.  Like hand grenades, close enough is probably good enough for past service and then create a system to track...

Wrist Watch Recommendations - Merged Thread

Dual time zones is nice to have but any water-resistant watch will do.  You don't need an alarm feature.

    All About RESO (merged)

Positions vary by unit (number of vacancies depending on attrition rates, unit size, etc).  Contact your local CFRC for more information.  Recruiting might be a little bit slow right now due to PRes summer employment but will pick up again in Sept.  CFRC Toronto 4900 Yonge Street, Suite 100...

Top soldier hopes Forces can reduce overhead, increase efficiency

Nope.  JCSP 36 average age was 39 and 37 is younger yet.  One student coming on 37 is still a Capt!

Top soldier hopes Forces can reduce overhead, increase efficiency

True - but to be fair, they tend to be 5-10 years younger too.

Top soldier hopes Forces can reduce overhead, increase efficiency

I think you might have the cart before the horse here.  Selection for JCSP is based on merit standing, thus it follows that JCSP graduates are promoted ahead of their peers.  Somewhere around 2/3 of the graduating class is usually already wearing their third ring.

Is there demand for Direct Entry Officers?

Hi Justin, I'm a DEO and experienced a very similar 'lack of interest' when I was recruited nearly 20 years ago.  I had completed a BComm and was a serving militia officer.  The CFRC rarely called me back, frequently lost paperwork, and generally exhibited little enthusiasm.  You just need to...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

The RAN are pretty happy with HMAS Sirius - built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea and then modified by Tenix Defence in Fremantle.  Not a full AOR for sure but cheap and effective.

The Threat of Modern Piracy- A Merged Thread

It should be noted that at least one international organization, the World Peace Foundation, questions whether any toxic dumping actually took place.1 1 Robert I.
