Is your experience in the use of batmen in Canada? It would have been different from their use in Europe or in the field. My UK friends who I talked about this with were of the opinion that nothing much had changed since Wellington when it came to batmen. Perhaps it depended on who the officer...
Ive never heard that explanation before - hard to imagine a batman learning about how to be an officer when he's polishing boots and cleaning uniforms.
The batmen was basically the equivalent of a valet, a personal servant whose duties included boot polisher, room maintainer, uniform cleaner...
That would suggest that once you leave the DND/CF, you should open a new account for the pension money to be deposited into. Leave the old account with zero funds. This would force them to contact you directly to sort out any back-pay issues, not leaving them with the option of grabbing funds...
Mike,
I find the search function is working fine, but any chance of improving the capabilites?, i.e. chronological order? Or is there a button for this somewhere that Im not seeing?

I find it quite surprising that in all this talk about intelligence organizations, no one mentions our own Int Branch and/or other CF members from other trades also contributing - apparently none of our people do anything except read CSE dispatches.
Sorry for the long response time; holidays, work, all the usual stuff. Unfortunately, Milnet is around #15 when it comes to priorities.
I read through all the following posts, then spent about ten minutes writing a response to George's and ArmyVern's comments. They made some good points, but...
It would be pretty easy to do - after all, the victim wants to tell their story, doesnt have to be coerced, isnt concerned about having a lawyer present, and thinks that the police will do what is best for them.
Oh, Im sure many of the people at the top of the food chain know what the SOF does - they just dont see it as being very important. No amount of education will fix that.
I agree that the CF should investigate to find why it happened, and guess what you'll find? Human error. If youre trying to tell me that a person with your experience and background hasnt seen it before, Im pretty shocked.
This sounds like a very rare incident where multiple files for an...
These kinds of errors happen - I dont see why the 'shocked' member had to go to the papers and broadcast a clerical error as if it was the end of the world.
It might also interest him to know that based on current case law, if a private company does violate privacy (i.e. like the example in the...
I would disagree with that - there's a high level of individual training that eats up a lot of money.
However, you are right in that it is a small expense compared to the rest of the military; and has fewer people in high places to defend their costs, which makes them more vulnerable to budget...
For the VR program I was on, the military granted the time and pay, while SISP covered tuition, fees, books, and travel/parking costs.
But it takes time to arrange - not everyone gets nine months notice before they leave, allowing for getting the paperwork done and then six months of...
An outfit whose work is secret can be an easy target for politicians who can rationalize that if no one sees it now, no one is going to notice if it is cut back.
To future SF pers, welcome to the club - the intelligence trade has had this problem since it was created.
You're focusing on the wrong words; the important words here are not 'occupation' - its education skills training experience and transferable skills, the most important being transferable skills. This includes not only your primary occupation but also your secondary duties. It also has to bear...
I would disagree - commanders think they know very well the implications of their statements. If every one of them always knew what they were doing all of the time, none of them would ever make mistakes. But they do make mistakes, sometimes small and sometimes big. It cant be helped when...
Im not showing it to my wife - she would suggest that married men are just trained better... and I would say that married men are more susceptable to guilt tactics and 'denial of service' punishments when the spouse disagrees with the married man's activities...
