Sourcing Funds for D-Day Commemoration Overseas

CDS issued guidance in Oct 2012 which specifically addresses the issue of invitations to gala events and third party financial sponsorship.  You have provided a thumbnail sketch of the background, but it is possible this invitation may fall into this category since you are being invited as an...

Mental Health and the Canadian Forces - Recent Articles

RP, thank you for the clarification. I understand the point you are making about Canadians generally poor understanding of military service and the unique demands it places on its members. You also make a good point about patients' reluctance to disclose.

Mental Health and the Canadian Forces - Recent Articles

Wow. Talk about a generalization. I would argue that you're wrong, since family physicians provide the majority of primary mental health care in Canada.  Most communities do not have the depth or breadth of mental health resources that we have in the CAF, so most FPs have to manage the common...

    Mess Kits

Well, the solution then is simple - don't get promoted. Otherwise, upon promotion get your tailor to remove your current rank stripes and replace with pips and crowns, since you'd need to get new rank anyways.

    All Things Combat Diver (merged)

Why don't you first  focus on doing your best to ensure successful completion of your BOMQ and then your trades training. If you don't complete those you won't have any diving career.  Do a search about Cl Diver. FWIW, you might wish to consider changing your username until you've actually...

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

You will spend no time at sea, unless you are fortunate to get an exchange with the Comfort or Mercy. I don't know about CAP, hopefully somebody else can chime in on that topic.

    The "Nursing Officer" Merged Thread

The environmental uniform that you wear - CA, RCN or RCAF - makes absolutely no difference where you serve with the Royal Canadian Medical Service. You can request Air Force, and you may get the blue uniform but your postings will be independent of it.

    The Great Gun Control Debate

Lead has been replaced by steel, bismuth and other alloys for water fowling. Copper itself is a toxic metal (which is why hulls of wooden ships were sheeted in Cu below the waterline).

    Navy Kit

The portable DVD player has likely been replaced - or should be - by an iPad Air that plays digital downloads, music, etc. A nice waterproof divers watch is always appreciated (see St Moritz watches at Mountain Equip Co-op).

Mental health training for CF primary care providers

When you say you are a soon-to-be professional, what do you mean?  In answer to your question, yes,  primary care practitioners who deal with mental health on a regular basis are trained within their respective scopes of practice e.g. Medical Officers, Nursing Officers, Physician Assistant...

    New Pension Averaging

Tony Clement of the Treasury Board has proposed "modernizing" Public Service pensions to align them with the private sector. By this he means changing from the current Defined Benefits plan to a Defined Contribution pension. If this were to be imposed upon the PS, then I suspect the CAF would...
