The Going To Esquimalt Thread- PAT, PMQ, Etc.- Merged

There are PMQs in Work Point, close to the Dockyard, some close toNaden and the main patch is in Colwood, so I suppose it depends on where your other will be employed as to whether or not they would be convenient. Traffic from Colwood can be a pain at times.  Someone with more recent experince...

DND Mail being destroyed (APRIL FOOLS')

How did this mail get to Belleville in the first place? Obviously other Canada Post employees did not find its smell offensive. And how is the mail going to get back to the sender. Again by Canada Post, smelly or not. Any posties out there?-I suspect they pickup the mail  in Belleville for the...

Kabul copes with lots of people, little water

I wonder what happened to the wells and bottling plant we left behind in Camp Julien?????? I agree the city is a filthy hole.

I stand corrected.  He is now the EA to General Hillier after completing the US gig.

Dead soldier's family bemoans severity of charges against 'amigo'

From the same link: "In 2000, Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Atkinson was fined $5,000 for negligence after he accidentally set off the turret-mounted machine gun on a tank by bumping into it with his helmet while visiting troops in Kosovo." Recall it was a three round burst of 50 cal. Fine and...

USAF Officer Gets 50 Years for Raping Men

It was not slander; the court martial happened in Petawawa in 1995, and like OJ, just because the person was not found guilty, does not mean the incident did not happen. Rape is a very serious allegation, and I can assure all this DID happen in the Canadian Forces in Bosnia in March 1995.

CAN Liberals: Outta AFG after 2009

Seen, I got wrapped up in your discussion re Olympics. Watch and wait I guess to see what direction the government takes their foreign and military policy post 2009. Building in yet another loc would be very very expensive. As for Afghan bases I do not think we will ever know how much Camp...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

I never noticed it until after the purchase was made....choice solely based on $$$$. They were $229.99 and reduced to $99.99, plus I had a $10 off coupon. I  really went in looking for something to keep my feet dry and warm at work in a winter boot, and these orphans on the reduced rack filled...

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

Funny you mention that, I just bought a reduced pair($89.95) of Mark's Dakota waterproof/composite toe and sole boots that look like the new boot, albeit made in Vietnam, and they have a blue dot on the Vibram sole.

    Swords

Somehow I am not surprised, $1500 as mentioned prior seemed a lot of money in 1981 given my 2Lt wage upon commisioning was $1635 a month.

    Swords

I saw "dipped" swords over my years as a QM and they looked like hell. And they were redipped in chrome because of abuse, ie left in scabbard, or someone decided to play pirate after too many beers at the Change of Command Parade. Piss off, if you busted up a C7 or prior FN you' d have been charged.

One of 3 surviving First World War vets has died

Could you imagine Jean Chretien issuing a statement like that? We were "Boy Scouts" I salute these men :salute: I remember my Grandma, born 1900, telling me how many of her brothers, cousins and friends were lost in the First World War, and she was not a demonstrative woman. RIP my friend!

    Swords

I would contact the RMC kitshop for your requirements; as mentioned earlier they have access to all patterns, where as the RCR is only likely to stock the Infantry one. My sword is the Infantry pattern which is pretty well the one in standard ie generic use in the CF. At the time I bought it I...

made a bad choice want to go home

I' d argue that one......I spent a total of 4 1/2 years at NDHQ and of that time I only actually had a job for one year. Senior officers got really pissed off when I told them I was totally underemployed in a position I could not relate to at all.  "Selection and maintenance of the empire". My...

made a bad choice want to go home

Ditto. I certainly had my fair share of experience trying to motivate soldiers that were not quite sure if they wanted to be there. Put in your release and move on to plan B. Good luck.

Reservist flying to Kabul as a civilian?

I still remember arriving at Kabul International, and seeing an Ariana A300 on the tarmac with every conceivable access panel open, while about 100 Afgan men looked on while squatting in that peculiar way of passing the time of day there. Not something to inspire confidence though we got on...
