    Camp Experiences

How do you think you first learned how to make a bed at camp? Your staff took everyone in a semi circle around the bunk, and explained every step in detail as they did it, and they made the bed.

"Herman The German" has been around a lot longer than you and your friends might think, so don't go thinking that you're the first people to coin the phrase.

Going to St. Jean April 8th. What is a MUST buy before going and what can wait?

I suggest you bring at least some of everything you will need, from what I understand, you should be prepared to not have Canex access for a day or two at least.

    Weapons Training

Correct, it doesn't really matter...but someone higher up decided it does matter ::) And in a typical cadet career, they would only be able to use the C7 once (maybe twice if they're lucky) in any 7 year career. I have unintentionally been included in a FTX with the C Scots a few years ago. I...

Exactly! That's one of the biggest downfalls of cadets, is that we want to stimulate an interest in the forces, and do more things with our AFUs...yet we aren't allowed to learn the language of the army ::)

    hackles and toories

How could you both have missed this? "The red hackle was first officially issued out on a parade at Royston in 1795. An Army Order of 1822 made the red hackle the official badge of the Black Watch, who have the distinction of wearing the hackle without a cap badge."

Yea I know all about the legal issues with cadets, which is why my officer invited me to be his guest at the gun club for a day, where it is allowed for me to shoot his pistols, etc. It was all clearly spelled out in the Comox Valley Gun Club rules.

    Weapons Training

Personally, i've fired old civil war era muskets, .22, 9mm, and 45cal handguns, as well as 12 and 16 guage shotguns It helps to have an officer who's a member of the local Gun Club ;)

    Weapons Training

Cadet Instructor RSOs may be certified on largebore, but they are not permitted to use it at camp. That is done by reserve/regular CF members. Cadets *can* shoot everything from the Daisy air rifle, to the Lee Enfield .22 (converted .303), to the C12A1 (a 7.62mm olympic target rifle). Daisy -...

    Para... Advance Training...

The Germany exchange only requires silver fitness. It is mostly a shooting exchange, but from what I understand, there are a couple of obstacle courses also. Overall, I would say the US exchange is the most physically demanding, with Germany close behind.

    staff cadet kit

Good question!! I would hazard to say yes, but it would be a very good idea to pass it by your CO so they can talk to the regional staff about it, and get a definite yes or no. The answer will probably be no based on the uniformity issue, having all staff cadets issued OD combats to look alike.
