As I recall, Canadian radio stations and CBC are required to play a certain percentage of Canadian content. IMHO it is always nice when a decent Canadian program/movie is produced, vice the standard crap that is made up just to fill the quota.Example: The Canadian version of "who wants to be a...
I don't believe Canadians as a whole are anti-military. But rather they have never needed to hide in their basements from the ravages of war, waiting for their military to liberate them. If you look at it like owning insurance on your car, yeah its crappy to have to pay money every month into...
Okay, Okay I knew that one would be brought up. I just wanted to get rid of the myth that the Canadian armed forces was actively recruiting people to fill some quota overseas. As this forum demonstrates every day soldiers are hoping to get tours overseas and I am pretty sure the few positions...
The title fit so im dragging this one out of the grave to add a few more:
a)The days of hazing and beatings are long gone
b)Soldiers do in fact pay taxes and dont get base housing for free
c)The army doesn't get to take military vehicles home at the end of the day
d)Canada doesn't send its...
After reading through all the threads I seem to have found a pattern. Everyone has taken bits of the advert and come up with a particular thing that erks them.
a)Its just a commercial about a veteran coin so leave it at that.
b)Theres a woman soldier portrayed
c)Shes got dangly earings
d)her...
I am a firm believer of CISD (critical incident stress debrief). As soon as possible after an incident, getting all parties together to talk about the incident that just happened in an informal environment can do wonders at preventing PTSD. That way everyone can cover what went right, what went...
A friend of mine was posted to Edmonton last summer and bought a home in St. Albert. Just yesterday while he was at work, his kids at school and the wife out job hunting, some kids high on crystal meth broke in, stole all the electronics and smashed everything else. The husband is shortly going...
I know it sucks but the security clearance is an obviouse neccesity. Get the paperwork in without mistakes, wait for the call. Would you prefer a military that is based on recruits with a sketchy past? The screening process does need a total overhaul though because the time frames are taking way...
Paul and the director were very happy with the bleakness of Suffield and will be returning in january to look at set locations etc. The only problem foreseen is with set construction, the winds at Suffield might be a problem. Apparently shooting is scheduled for May/June timeframe.
I think we could make a pretty good vimy movie....after all we still use the same guns. On a lighter note, Paul Gross just finished his recce of the Suffield ranges and lets just say it was an eye opener.
Its interesting that I have never heard heard about this and if anyone has any legitimate info on the unit involved please pm me. I deployed on Cavalier 3 with 1 horse in 94. A section was deployed to the Bakovici mental hospital where one day we had some "local insurgents" flaunting a Canadian...
I am very glad that JATF has been proposed and is being implemented but IMHO this military needs atleast 5 years away from operations to recruit and resupply with a proper budget in order to rebuild properly. It sounds to me like we will be spread thin with no money and minimal equipment, which...
How can this realistically work if we can't even bring in the 5000 fresh meat troops to backfill the positions of the plethora of troops wanting to be in JATF?
Call the base duty center and give them all the information you can about the person. But ensure that this is an emergency that cannot wait because theres a good chance the staff and base padre will be waiting to talk to this person after you do to ensure theres not going to be more problems...
I have decided to erase what I originally started writing as it was kind of harsh. Alot of things were done in the past (both military and civillian) because we as a society didn't know any better.
Atomic bombs were detonated in the US with soldiers sitting a few miles away watching...
What I meant to say is, why is it that a soldier doing a bft in an urban area draws more calls to the local police than a drug house shootout? My opinion is that the Canadaian public always has a huge outcry when they see soldiers training in populated areas. Whereas typically if there is a gang...
Its sad to say but the Canadian public would believe the streets are safe and the real scary thing is the idea of giving bullets to the armed forces in Canadian cities. During the first gulf war, the armouries in Red Deer had a 24 hour picket manned with soldiers being armed to the teeth with a...
Actually we had trials for sperwer, and vindicator here last month. The vindicator is actually the old target planes the AD used to shoot at, being trialed by the arty school. Sperwer are much bigger.
On two seperate occasions I have written PER's for people that work directly for me and are not seen in any way by the higher ranks in their daily duties. I wrote the PER's with plenty of substantiated evidence and when the PER's were completed, I was told "thats very nice but we had an ogroup...
