    Officer positions

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa.  He's talking about Intelligence officers not intelligent ones - two very different beasts! ;D

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

Right and maybe you should have read the first one I posted that said we will never buy an A-10.

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

What post are you reading?  My point was because we aren't big enough for that we have to double hat what we do have and the Aurora properly configured would also make a good CAS aircraft.

Sorry that didn't come out the way I wanted... still getting the hang of this quote thing. :P

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

Yep. And I even crashed the Sim in the H.C into the A.V's north mountain. Fair enough, I was talking more about the weapons and any mods (if any) you would have to make to accomodate A-G weapons. Can the MX-20 EOIR laser designate?  You don't have to answer that. It sucks when you are getting...

Close Air Support in the CF: Bring back something like the CF-5 or introduce something with props?

So I just found this thread and I have always had a question maybe someone here can answer.  I should point out that I am of the opinion that Canada will always opt for multi-role vice single purpose equipment i.e. we would never buy an A-10 (for example) we are just too small for that kind of...

Griffon Helicopters, INGRESS and Kandahar [Udate: Deployment officially announced!]

Yes it is, but if you are the supported commander (let's say a dismounted Coy commander) don't think for a second you will be able to order your armed recce bird to land in a hot LZ and pick up a casualty.

Griffon Helicopters, INGRESS and Kandahar [Udate: Deployment officially announced!]

Either way, it doesn't matter.  As the article says the aircraft/crews will go into a pool.  We will bid for missions based on requirements and will get the most appropriate airframe/capability for the mission as available.  Just because we now have airframes over there does not mean we will...

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure that CASEVAC is removal of a combat casualty from the battlefield while MEDEVAC is movement onward or not from a combat zone. I.e. From the battlefield to KAF = CASEVAC.  From KAF to Landshtuhl (sp?) Germany = MEDEVAC.

Training in Calling for Fire Support

NFLD Sapper, Okay, rest assured that while what you quoted in USOPs is accurate it is for calls for fire from HQ's or trained observers, not SACFF so it is not what is asked of or taught to a line soldier.  The definitive references for firing Artillery are the Artillery Pubs, namely...

Training in Calling for Fire Support

The Supported Arms Call For Fire has 5 Parts - but I have also included Direction because most people think it's required and most checklists include it not to mention you will probably be asked for it anyway. Warning Order (Fire Mission) Location of Target (Target Grid, Target Number...

    Cluster Munition Treaty and Canada

We don't. This is another bad idea made only because it sells well politically to Joe Civie.  In reality it does nothing but tighten the ropes that are already tying our hands.  These munitions are very effective against area targets and armour and while they may not really be required that...

    Trade Question

Why does "everyone think officer is the way to go?" The extra money?  The fact that you may eventually be in charge of something/someone?  If those are your motivations forget it, the CF needs leaders, not people looking for a free ride.  If you are interested in Dental Tech, go to school get...

The Optimal Battle Group vs. the Affiliated Battle Group

LtMaverick25 While we are getting off the thread topic a bit I have to disagree.  We do a very good job at combined [b]arms[b] training, i.e. Inf, Arty, Eng, Armd.  What we don't do well is integration of non-combat arms support trades (like Int which is probably why you heard your superiors...

Yes there are a couple of Air Force FACs with each roto but they are in the TACP and very seldom leave the wire (with one or two exceptions strictly personality based).  Unlike in the U.S., the FACs "with the troops on the ground" are all Army and usually Gunners.

The Optimal Battle Group vs. the Affiliated Battle Group

Just read through the 17 pages of posts to date on this thread and I apologize in advance if I am opening old wounds but I have one issue.  The elephant in my room is the fact that we are not just fighting a BG in theatre right now, so what happens to the other units who need the support of the...

    Artillery Mortar Course

So a new reservist?  If you are going on tour you are obviously qualified which means you are familiar with at least the C3 and all crew served and personal weapons.  Based on what you cite as your experience I am going to go out on a limb and assume you will be employed as a regular gun number...

L.A. sheriff doesn't want off-duty deputies carrying guns while drinking!

I don't know, it's pretty simple in my mind.  We arm these individuals because they have been trained and we trust their judgement.  There is no debate that excess alcohol impares judgement ergo once they have passed that point (.08 or whatever)  their judgement should no longer be trusted and...

Synthetic environnement training, what do you think about it?

Ettibebs, Since you acknowledged that simulation can not replace field time I will let that one go and try to answer your question based on my experience.  The key to employing simulation effectively is to clearly define what the training aims are and where it fits into the training plan...
