I'd still like to see the last paragraph proved. The harsh northern environment is really something to contend with. One oil or hydraulic leak would turn a Chinook into a semi permanent landmark.
A time long ago when I was just a pup I started out as something called an Aircraft Tech. in what used to be called "The Army".
Then The Canadian Forces came along and wise men changed everything. What used to be an Aircraft Tech. was changed to Aviation Tech. and given a number 513.
Later...

Actually, it didn't take more than a few minutes.
Beenthere could actually have been there had not Don Brooks gotten approval before the guy that I was working for...
In regard to the Yukon government having a claim on the aircraft:
About 10 years ago there was a dispute over ownership/salvage rights between the Newfoundland government and a would be salvager of a US B-?? that was on the bottom of a lake in Labrador.
I don't recall all of the details but the...
http://www.pprune.org/rotorheads/163206-sikorsky-s-92-design-operations-67.html The S-92 MGB has a history of oil problems and there seems to be some controversy about what Sikorsky is or is not saying about the MGB. The issue has been ongoing for some time.
Certainly is interesting reading...
I have a few old slides (remember when slides were the ultimate) from about 1970 that show a CH-113A sitting in a lake near Goose Bay while the crew were catching some fine trout. There are some great trout slides as well. It's the kind of fishing that no one would believe and without pictures...
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/AWA1/101-200/walk189_Mig23/images_Jeff_Keip/39_'Swift%20Rod'%20ILS%20Antenna.jpg I found several photos of "swift rod ils".
The link shows one that's foreward mounted on a Mig-23.
It's definitely a strange looking object. Right out of the ironworks like...
It does look like a pitot tube. The tip looks like a heating element that has been discoloured by heat which would be logical as it needs anti-icing and the other end appears to have a threaded tube connection which would also indicate that it would be a pitot tube. To discolour the metal it...
I doubt that it's anything directly related to aircraft of any kind. Looks like an aerodynamic design though and some/most of the material would seem to be aluminum. I would think that it is the tip of a projectile/missile. Probably not a modern product. 50's or 60's USSR or East European. Has...
I just went through the fuel system. It's very good. Just what's necessary without overloading of information. Of course there are lots of numbers included but I just skipped through most of them as the valueable ones always sink in with actual experience. Why am I talking about actual...
http://choppertech.blogspot.com/ I found this recently. It's about the bush war in Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and the writer is a former Rhodesian Air Force helicopter tech who flew on helicopters during the war. They were very short of equipment as there was an embargo and they couldn't import military...
That's the in flight fluids monitoring system. If there's oil or hydraulic fluid coming out it means that the system isn't empty. You know there's a problem when it stops coming out.
That reminds me of a project that I was involved in a long time ago. It worked great way back when but I've not been able to find out if it's still being used.
I don't know the present policy but it used to be that most if not all postings for new FEs were determined during or at the end of the basic FE course.
