    Total Force ???

The Reserve Electronic Warfare Squadron in Kingston had 10% reg force personnel in it when I was there in the 90's.  I thought it was a very effective mix, and brought disparate strengths from reg and reserve together.  In 95 several of the reg force pers got posted out without being replaced...

    "Life After the Oil Crash"

Another problem comes from the fact that as a science, climatology isn't as well understood as some of the other sciences (Newtonian mechanics for instance).  Two different scientists, working objectively, can come up with different results from the same data.  If you throw the scientists...

Poll: What do you think of the changes?

Mike- Thanks for all of your hard work.  The new features look great, especially the spell checker.  If only we could now force people to use it... ;)  I don't know how much control you have over the content of the dictionary, but it would be nice if you could add some commonly-posted military...

    Recruit training discipline

The corporal carried his rucksack?!?!  Holy crap! On a ruck march, one of my recruits asked me if he could carry Wilson's rucksack, because Wilson was having so much trouble.  My initial thought was "One man, one kit", but I amended that pretty quickly.  "Bloggins, if you want to carry two...

    Recruit training discipline

There are lots of ways to make push ups "corrective" rather than punitive.   Whenever a recruit called me Sgt instead of MCpl, they got to do "rank structure pushups".   Instead of counting them out "1- MCpl, 2- MCpl, 3- MCpl..." the offending recruit had to go through the rank structure on each...

    Gas prices

About €1.25 in Paris. That‘s about $2(Cdn) per liter. Yeah- I ride a bicycle to work everyday.

Vets must pay for D-Day trip

My grandfather participated in the Normandy campaign, but he didn‘t land on Juno Beach until June 10th. Is he any less deserving of a free trip to France? Where do you draw the line?

IT's about time- France Cracks Down On Radicals

Well France has its right wing wingnuts to go along with the left wing wackos. (Just like most countries.) There were civil elections here a month or two ago, and there were campaign posters all over the place that said "Non à l‘Islamation!" Chirac also openly admitted that the ban on...

    Final Question about Intelligence

Commanders and politicians typically want very different things, so it all starts with the first step of the int cycle, direction. You can read all about the wonderful int cycle at the link that Korus gave you. Anyway, I‘ll give you two basic examples to go with. To help the commander figure...

    British Prisoner Abuse

I agree with you, and I hope that this would be the case. I just don‘t think we‘re in a position to be pointing any fingers. Cheers

    British Prisoner Abuse

It would be nice to think that, but I don‘t think so. If we look at our record of prisoner abuse in Somalia, there were several people involved in prisoner abuse (according to Bercuson‘s book, "Significant Incident") that got away with administrative punishment. Kyle Brown went to court...

CF Code of Conduct and US/Brit war crimes

Michael- Good web page. I would think that Mommy, Daddy, and the significant other would be very interested in this when Johnny goes overseas. And the historical examples are a nice touch- they really help illustrate the rules. And now onto administrative matters (I noticed a few typos)...

Funny- I was told Mercury was the Roman god of messages, thievery, and mischief. Some would say rather appropriate for Jimmies... ;) :p :D

    Question of the Hour

    Intelligence branch..

Military Intelligence is only the second largest oxymoron in the world. The largest: the greatest hits album called "The Essential Parachute Club" :p (I‘ve heard it consists of twelve different versions of "Rise Up")

    Scrap the military?

Richard Clarke is not that stupid. This is just a little reverse psychology. He also mentioned that Canada is getting a free ride in terms of North American defense, so he‘s just trying to get us to pull our weight. (OK, I hope he‘s just trying to get us to pull our weight.)

Oooh... below the belt! I remember defending him to the other instructors- "he‘s just helping out the lesser experienced people on course..." Found out later I was wrong. Crap. He was still a good student, though. And yeah, I did some cool stuff in int as well, but it all had to do...

Slim- While I agree with you that there are numerous reserve members of the trade that are merely taking up space, I think you‘ve missed the point of the t-shirt. "We don‘t do anything remotely cool" is not an attitude, it‘s a fact. We don‘t have sexy equipment to play with- no tanks, arty...

    Intelligence branch..

Several years ago, to combat all the misconceptions that are out there, 6 Int Coy had t-shirts made up which said "We don‘t do anything remotely cool." :D Int is a very interesting trade, but Hollywood has completely screwed up the layman‘s view of it.
