    Unit Organization in Afhganistan

In the spirit of Infanteer's post, I'll try to give you some answers. -I can't answer the first one; situations and ground dicates far too much. -We travel in LAVs when the mission calls for it, and we walk when the missions calls for it too. We dismout to do more than fight. 4 LAVs per...

    New Rucksack

To any of the people who've had the new rucks for a while now; have your opinions changed of it since you've last posted about it? I'm thinking of buying myself a 64 pattern ruck (CoC approved, of course) but if the new ruck is workable, especially for Winter Ops, I may just put off getting one...

    Most dreadful PT experience

Unless you're going to tell me you learned absolutely nothing and are a worse person/soldier because of it, I stand by my statement.

    Most dreadful PT experience

I'm a little envious of the cold dip in the drink to be honest. Any experience is good experience.

    Most dreadful PT experience

Worst Experience DP1 of course; Sunday roll call comes around, and as usual, most of the platoon is still a little dopey if not hung over. Our Sgt decides he didn't do enough PT during the weekend, and so we go on a 15k run, in the rain, up and down some pretty steep hills. I think 12 of us...

    Packing for Basic [MERGED]

Correction to the above; you do not get issued NVGs of any kind during DP1; you use them at points throughout, but they are never issued to the individuals on the course.

    Soldier Qualification Location

I think I may be confused here. Some people seem to referring to DP1 as SQ, or DP1 as the old BIQ. Is there some kind of inconsistency in the nomenclature between Reg Force and PRes? In the Reg Force (In the Combat Arms, at least), DP1 is the course that makes you trade qualified. All Combat...

    Boot Size

305/116 is my boot size, and depending on Civvy brand, I can wear from a 14 1/2 to a 16. As far as I know, any larger than that and they're custom made. Doesn't mean it didn't take me about 6 months to finally get my second pair though.

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

I must be one of the only guys I know in my Coy who has no complaints about the GPs. I've been wearing them every day for over a year now, and I've only ever once had a blister from them... because I got dressed in a real hurry and somehow got a small rock in the bottom of my boot. I don't use...

    Finally got things moving

Thanks Vern, I guess using the word return/returning in my search doomed it. That thread also makes me look forward to wearing the issued boxers ;D.Thanks again!

My search skills might not be up to snuff, but I can't find any pertinent threads.

    Soldiers kicked out of military

Korporal, what you said is entirely true, but the way I read the article, it seems like the reservist in question volunteered to deploy, did the pre-deployment training, and then claimed to be a conscientious objector. That is why he was released. Going overseas, except in an all-out war (as...

Legality of Buying & Selling Private Firearms

Good to know, thanks for the information ;D

Legality of Buying & Selling Private Firearms

My mistake, it's a Firearms Business Licence (FBL, rather than BFL), and they say, I'll admit I don't know much beyond what's on this page, but here it is. It doesn't say anything about individuals not being able to sell firearms to other individuals, so if you guys are doing this trading out...

What section of Canadian Tire did you see them? I've never happened upon then...

Legality of Buying & Selling Private Firearms

Okay then, I just thought that to distribute firearms in any way, shape, or form you needed a BFL. With such stringent gun control up here, I'm surprised individuals can sell/trade them. I'll stand down to your obviously superior knowledge. (After writing that, it sounds sarcastic, but I assure...

Canadian "Support Our Troops" Ribbons, Bracelets, Pins, etc

actually, I had no idea. I used to shop there as a kid, but I always assumed it was for Military and family of military (being located on the base and all, I don't remember ever seeing civvies in there, except in the restaurant, because we had the best damned burgers in all of Wainwright!) The...
