Some units do have restrictions on chewing tobacco, unless its changed, 2 RCR isn't allowed chewing except in designated smoking areas.
In my section we had a policy of NO CLEAR SPITOONS because it's friggin gross to look at.
That's right. Floating means that they're totally seprate and don't contact the barrel (or any part thereof) so that accessories/grips don't "pull" on the barrel. I've never really noticed it a problem, the only time I could see a real difference is if you had a rail mounted M203 or a bipod. KAC...
Hey, how knows? Maybe this'll have the opposite effect everyone's expecting; maybe candidates will learn to be super efficient so they can have time to play with their gadgets with peace of mind knowing everything is done and to standard?
I read all of the thread, and I hope I didn't miss this being posted.
I wonder what those numbers actually mean; I think it's very possible that a good portion of that 40% is in new "Accidental Discharges" being reported, rather than all new incidents. 40% seems like too sudden a change in...
My problem with the whole "We need to train for *A* war, not *THE* war" is that when most people say that they mean "we need to train for the cold war, nothing else"
A couple weeks ago I was told by an OC that we don't need to do urban ops any more because it's an Afghanistan thing. He went on...
Just an idea, something I did overseas to make the pouches easier to access on my MAV was to use triple-stack mag pouches and just put two mags in them. It's usually easy to cinch up the pouches to hold them tight and when it comes down to it you can draw the mags out really easily because...
There was a really high Accidental Discharge rate with the RWS gun overseas, none of which ended in the gunner being charged. I've personally witnessed two "ADs" in which the gun decided on its own that it wanted to shoot and firing a round in a really unsafe manner (during readying). Both...
I've driven a LAV where all 8 wheels left the ground (driving 60km off road into a sunset... asking for trouble) fell into a pit and knocked the front 2 wheels off their tie rod ends. The Gunner/CC were pretty shaken up too. Drove it back just fine, albeit slowly... Honest mistake ;D
I've seen armoured crewman helmets around once and a while. Older ones. It seems that the inner layer of the new helmet would be mainly for crewman who they don't think require the ballistic protection.
This design seriously makes me mad.
It's not the weight that worries me, it's how cumbersome it looks to shoot with. I want a helmet that's high in the back and doesn't cover my ears. They gave me the opposite.
That's exactly what I want, a helmet that's even larger and more cumbersome. They look like bobble-heads. I want a low profile helmet that actually is practical to wear when shooting not a total hindrance.
I'm astounded at the stupidity in the design of these things.
Just to add, when I see...
I don't care what the regs are, this is a silly argument. On tour you're doing work that's usually vitally important (in a small or a big way) to the mission at hand and indirectly the lives of Canadians. To equate THAT with sitting in an office at a reserve unit with no work to do "just...
I don't think any book should be considered as research for the infantry. Most of these books recount exceptional stories that comprise 1% of the infantry experience. You'll be totally disappointed if you use books to build your expectations for the infantry.
The main thing to keep in mind is that when you're out in public, the public see you as a representative of the CF, so whatever you do keep that in mind. I've never seen anything above unit standing orders cited for policies on listening to music/cell phone use/etc so if you don't find anything...
What makes the C7 front heavy is the fact we only have rails mounted on the gas block, and all our accessories typically hang from that. It's much much more tolerable if the stuff gets mounted closer to the reciever by add-on rails, which have a myriad of problems already.
