9 mm pistol as secondary weapon

Within my organization during Ex Provincial Guardian, everyone from myself (the Pte) through the MCpls, Sgts, RSM and CO were carrying sidearms in addition to their long barrel weapons, with the intent that it would be the same when we head overseas in the spring. The ones that weren't carring...

    What weapon is this?

Maybe that's Colt's as-of-yet-unpublished competition for the SCAR and Masada/ACR

9 mm pistol as secondary weapon

That's not how it's allocated at all. In my, albeit limited experience, when pistols are brought in, it's an all-ranks thing, from the lowliest no-hook to the CO.

Canadian body armour research: what do we look at next?

I have this link saved from an old debate on Dragonskin. I believe the conclusion of the thread was "this stuff is garbage" http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14523

Tac Vest does not make the grade.

Well, that's a shame. And so the CF lets me down once again.

    Coyote Brown the new OD?

Well, the rule here, which as far as I know isn't written, is that you can use OD/AR accessories if you've been to or are currently training up to go to Afghanistan. Other than that, be inconspicuous, lest you be asked about it.

    Regarding Boots

On that note, myself as well as most of the guys I know prefer using regular Kiwi polish instead of Parade Gloss on their parade boots. Comes out better for some reason, in our experience.

Tac Vest does not make the grade.

Thanks for that Matt, it's pretty much what I was expecting. I kinda always doubted that we'd ever see these on the PRT anyway. Here's hoping they authorize non-issued rigs before the California Ex. Train as you fight, right?

CF Ordering 25K "Hybrid (Combat) Shirts"

Our CSMs have been telling us we're getting this issued to us for our upcoming tour for months now. Also, the entire CF isn't leaving Afghanistan in 2011, it sounds like we'll maintain a PRT, no reason to hose those boys in regards to kit just because "you" won't be there, eh?

    Buttstock reccomendations

Some of the most anal SMs I can imagine have walked right past guys with replaced handguards and buttstocks, so I imagine replacing the buttstock would be fine with most CoCs in the RegF Combat Arms world. The Weapons Techs I know usually enjoy seeing weapons that work for their users...

    ICE Tactical Direct Action Rig?

As an infanteer, I can say that I can't forsee a day where we don't have standardized FFO, dictating which pouch contains our cam paint and what side we have to put our canteen with canteen cup and canteen stove. God forbid you label the wrong side of the canteen stove... This year alone we've...

    Buttstock reccomendations

I love the ambi cocking handles; it makes the weapon much easier to cock (as a right handed shooter). Doing UO drills is markedly easier. As long as you're not abusing your rifle there's no reason it should break (unless you're doing drill...)

    Realistic expectations

A note though, in the infantry at least, Rucks that weigh in at 65-80 lbs are not a rare thing.

    ICE Tactical Direct Action Rig?

There'll be a unit standard before it reaches the unit. Afterall, it wouldn't look right on parade if the C6 operators have different pouches than the M203 grenadiers...

    ICE Tactical Direct Action Rig?

Couldn't agree with you more Anyone's Grunt. As a young private, that CANLANDGEN felt like a total upheaval to me, we should be very thankful for just that. Now if only my CoC would agree with it :)

Questions about living in barracks after training.

Like the others said; It all depends. I'll tell you what I've seen in Gagetown though. You are paying about 600$/month for accomodations and food if you're single/living in. Being on Rations is MANDATORY for pers living in SQs. Your room is a small room barely able to fit the 4 people's worth...

    Combat Engineer or Infantry

My teachings an infanteer is that the Engineers are there to enable our movement and to impede the enemy's. In training, we call up the engineers for explosive breaches, but we clear up that point before they get there, and we're still the ones that go in and clear the room. Also, to my...

9 mm pistol as secondary weapon

Every Infantry Pte and up I know is current on Pistol PWT 1, 2, and 3. We're told each member will be carrying a 9mm in addition to his pers weapon. We carried our pistols for most non traditional ranges (jungle lanes, etc.)

    Provincial Reconstruction Team

Garett's comment is pretty much in line with what I've heard from some of the guys that got back recently. PRT are out and about a LOT and are subsequently targetted. The thing is that they don't go out hunting for trouble, it comes to them.
