    Guns or Drones or Both?

Also set common standards for things like connectors, mounting points for various components, etc. Allows for multiple suppliers to provide different components rather than relying on a single OEM to provide a final product.

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I didn't say use Gripen airframes I said their technology. Saab already has several CCV prototypes with control software already developed as well as plans for an unmanned version of their next-gen Gripen technology. A Saab-Bombardier collaboration would be a huge head start in developing a...

    Future Armour

I'd take the highlighted portion with a grain of salt. @KevinB may have seen reports that aren't in the public domain but I haven't seen it reported anywhere that even 25mm DU rounds have penetrated the frontal armour (or side armour?) of modern MBT's like the T-90's. They have had mission...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I wish someone would grow a brain and make the Saab deal for a plant to design and build 72 (or more) CCV's based on the Gripen's technology to go along with our F-35's instead of replacing some of the F-35's with Gripens. Our NORAD CCV requirements call for a very long range and relatively...

    Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???

The US and China are the two largest economies in the World. Short of open war breaking out of course we're going to do business with them...just as they do business with each other. Does that mean we're "besties"? No. Does it mean that we ignore the things they do that are in their self...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Maybe this is a better role for the "Home Guard" type force that @Kirkhill likes to suggest. While for European countries during a major conflict they may potentially face regular military forces and high-end airborne threats, in Canada we would be much more likely to face small special forces...

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

"Instead of" shouldn't be in our vocabulary. We need AD systems to counter the whole range of airborne threats from cruise and ballistic missiles, to one-way attack drones to FPV quad-copters.

We're going to need more missiles... https://defence-blog.com/ukraine-confirms-interception-of-over-140000-aerial-targets-since-2022/ Hopefully "Key Sovereign Capability" #2 from the DIS will kick into gear soon: Ammunition - Common Ammunition; Battle-Decisive Munitions; Small...

    Iran Super Thread- Merged

Taking out the Ford in the Suez Canal would definitely have a massive impact but it would also be political suicide for Iran. No only would the retaliation from the US be massive but closing the Canal as a vital pipeline for Chinese imports and exports would turn one of the only allies they...

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

If you want to get a ground-based missile launch capability to either the coasts or the Arctic quickly then it is a key capability. I'm of the opinion that as much military capability as possible/logical should be able to be rapidly deployed by air anywhere in Canada.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

Stick with HIMARS. Fitting in a C-130J is a key capability for Canada. However, open a plant to build rockets and missiles here.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

It may be a requirement on paper but is it an actual requirement for the CAF? Is there a use case for AH's in the defence of Canada? Is deploying an Aviation Brigade in support of NATO the optimal use of that funding and PY's?

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

I'm good with this I question if the CAF really needs an Attack Helicopter. I view them as a "nice to have" but there are MANY capabilities that I'd choose to fund before spending any money on AH's.

    Political impacts of Ukraine war

From the original article: So maybe a mobilization readiness check, but sure sounds like a pretty expensive and disruptive exercise for a country with a pretty weak economy. Also, why run a snap readiness check with pretty strict measures (no social/medical deferments, phones taken, etc.)...
