I have used both types in CC's hatch on the Leo C1. The leather version was the easiest to use but did not carry any extra mags. The web version was a snag trap and my spare mags would end up in the bottom of the turret. For one exercise I used a 64 pattern holster on a spare resperator bag...
An interesting observation. There does not seem to be any obvious reason other than its the way the RCA fixed call sign table is set up. Other differences are RSM - 97 rather than 9C and the BSM position is 17 rather than 19C. Any information on why they are different would be appreciated.
Well trained units perform all of their duties to a high standard so your saying is of little value. Our soldiers carry out their duties in operational theaters or on parade square with the precision that's required. What uniform their in is simply a matter of geography.
As fare as milticam...
The RCAF has taken the bate and brought back their command badge. I have no idea why as they already look like the in the Airforce. Congratulations to the RCN for holding out on this one. As per the Army it's just a built in instinct to pin shiny bits on their uniform. Can't be helped.
Have to give to the Navy. They are out patching the Army and Airforce together. Our most conservative service has jumped on the bandwagon of buttons and bows. What's next?
What an interesting transformation of our forces. This loosening of the the dress standards to raise mortal is a bit of a smoke screen. Members of the forces take pride in what they do and how well they do it. T-shirts and patches don't creatate this training does.

The cold war to me is summarized by my service in 4 Brigade and our base at CFB Lahr. A real mission with our best equipment. Post war history has confirmed that we were just a shell of an formation with no depth. Even at our best our government ensured that we would be finished after one...
The 64 pattern was a joke as far as anything a soldier needed. The failure to include ammunition pouches of any kind suggests it was designed by the same gang that came up with the unification CF uniform. Gun tape and locking wire was the norm to keep it together. How could so many hard earned...
