The Mystery Ranch NICE frame system is already in use, in CADPAT TW, with the AGL project. CANSOF is using some MR pack variants as well. It wouldn't be a huge leap to assume that MR would be interested in further CF business. They are experienced with large scale production of their gear - ADF...
Sorry about that LF link.
Basically the ADF is getting a mix of Mystery Ranch and other kit to fill out their various identified needs. So they will have a modular system from assault pack up to full on alpine ruck. With a mix in between.
Regarding trials, from my perspective, the CTS project...
I happened to hear that a Letter of Interest (LOI) had been posted on MERX, related to modular pack systems. It looks like what may be the beginning of the end of the small pack and the new ruck...
The latest that I have heard is that they are being issued now in lieu of Mark IV GP boots.
Also, anyone waiting for custom boots from Pouliot will get brown vice black. So you should start to see them this summer.
I don't think that the Crye uniforms are anything like the ICU. The submission is asking for the G3 combat shirt - similar to the OTW shirt issued in Afghanistan. Crye's stuff has received some pretty glowing reviews and is in use with a large percentage of the western world's special operations...
Here's a thought - if the ICU is going to be so great, why is there a solicitation on MERX for at least 3,800 Crye Precision uniforms (camouflage pattern not specified), with options for 1,900 more, delivered within 200 km of Petawawa?
I did the DP4A.0 test cold without looking at the package. Who decided that it would take 7 days of at home study to pass this thing? I would be shocked and amazed to find that any of the units can afford to let people go for this amount of time... but if you can swing it - do it.
You all missed something from the pub:
b. When headdress has been removed in accordance with the provisions of thepreceding sub-paragraph, it shall be replaced:
(1) when approaching and leaving a military establishment; and
(2) immediately upon exiting a military vehicle or PMV
So you can...
CDN Aviator is correct - if you are unhappy with the way things are playing out, then do an OT to another trade.
The reason that ATIS and other tech trades are going to keep spec pay is becasue they are keeping POET. ACISS and the CST sub-occ are eliminating POET and going to a modular...
I get that everyone is really curious about SOF units, but do you think that you're really going to get an answer about selection?? Get a hold of the recruiters and ask them.
You know, the shuttle run actually favours basketball and soccer players - anyone who plays stop/go quick moving quick turning sports (like rugby?). Its not a "runners" test. Its an aerobic capacity test...
When I was last in KAF, earlier this year, there was talk of opening Tim's in Kabul. I think they had even interviewed people for the jobs. Anyone know anything about this?
Check out what Norway is doing:
http://militarytimes.com/blogs/gearscout/2011/09/07/ops-core-helmets-for-the-whole-norwegian-army/
They are buying the Ops Core FAST helmet, with the full option set including MANDIBLE protection...
Agreed 100% Also, yet again, the mighty Canadian Army is spending time and money redesigning (over designing even) something that could likely be met with a COTS solution...
