Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

I've had them in the past, and they are heavy.  Generally, not a huge issue, and I found them comfortable, but given the choice, I think that the Mk III's would be better for a course like CAP.  Lots of km's on the feet. Thanks for the input, and I'll start reading up on the GP thread.

Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

Hey Vern, I'm a navy type coming out your way this summer for CAP.  I currently have the Mk III's with the vibrum, although it's not the solid sole, just a layer of the cushion was added.  From your experience would I be better off turning in my Mk III's here (as I have no other army kit)...

    Clearance diver

It's more to do with Ship's Divers, but watch for a new episode on the Discovery Chanel this fall. They just wrapped shooting a couple of weeks ago on the west coast and will be putting out an episode on the Ships Team Diver course.  This is an old threat, but if a person wasn't already in...

    Forced Element Transfer

LuvNavy, I was in the same boat when I transfered once-upon-a-time to the intelligence branch.  I had been a hard sea trade, and the int branch wanted me to switch for airforce.  No disrespect to the airforce, but it wasn't a uniform that I could see myself in.  Back in those days...

    Funny Video for Friday

Good day all.  My first time spamming everyone with a funny video - but I felt that it was just that good.  The guys name is Jon Lajoie and he's a comedian from Montreal.  The video is called Everyday Normal Guy, but if you go to his youtube webpage there are several others - all equally as...

    Basic Up

The file is 148MB so however long it takes your computer to download/save that is how long it's going to take before you can watch it.  Use the previous suggestion of right clicking and selecting "Save target as".  Then you can just leave it to download and watch it whenever.

How often do you Navy fella's sail a year on average

I can't think of a year when I was with the fleet that the ships I was on didn't sail for a total of at least 6 months in a year.  From what I hear based on a buddy of mine who was on divi's today - it's only about to get a lot worse (or better if you love being away).

    CAP Aldershot

I appreciate the suggestion, but I don't have a DIN account, or DIN access myself.  When I checked a few weeks ago, I was on base doing admin and used one of the admin staff's accounts.  There is nothing to say that I can't do that again, but if someone can just post the dates here (if they...

    CAP Aldershot

To hijack this a bit, I had someone look on the DIN for me for dates for serials this summer, but nothing has been posted yet (or at least as of two weeks ago) on Gagetown's webpage.  Does anyone in the know have the dates for the serials this summer? Thanks in advance to whomever can help...

Counter surveillance - counter intelligence - counter espionage

If your deam job is counter-intelligence, counter-surv, etc, then put in an OT to MP, prove yourself to that branch and get proper training.   Alternately, quit the CF and apply to CSIS.  On the www.jobs.gc.ca website, they are currently hiring surv ops and from the sounds of things that would...

    CF Short Service Medals

I think the idea of a new 'gimme' medal is ridiculous.  There is nothing that I think looks more stupid than when you see a guy who has a chest full of armour and has never left the country!  (Can 125, Queens Jub, St. John's, CD, etc...).  I don't say this to disrespect people who have those...

    Afghanistan question

Policy line first.  We will be in AF until the government pulls us out.  Reality - with the current political banter that is going on, we might see the CF move away from Kandahar for a break at the end of our 'current committent" and either head back to Kabul, or perhaps to an even quieter...

    Killing Canadians 'best way': student

As opposed to acts of violence, people should write to him and tell him what a @#$# he's being.  Maybe if enough people let it be known that they knew about him, he might shut his gate.   Oh, his name is Salman Hossain and he's a member of the University of Toronto Muslim Association.   Maybe...

RMC Officer Sues to Avoid Saluting, Toasting Queen?

I don't know if he's still in, but I hope that he will now comply with the judges order and show the respect to the Queen that is expected by all members of the Canadian Forces and demanded by his holding the Queen's commission.  If he still has issues, which I suspect he does due to his...

    Would i be rejected for...?

I'm not going to answer your question other than to say, if you're broken, why would the CF want you - or why would you think you're a good candidate to get in.  Get yourself better first. On that note, shin spints usually develop from one of two reasons from my experience.  First, crappy...

Man killed by Winnipeg police was former Canadian Forces member: sources

I'm still not agreeing with you on this George (not that you're asking me to).   At least from what is being written, they are attributing his PTSD to his experiences in the CF.  His suffering this psychosis resulted in his causing the situation where the civilian police were forced to kill...

Man killed by Winnipeg police was former Canadian Forces member: sources

To address George's comment The CBC news story is stating that "... Bell had a long struggle with mental health issues following a training deployment overseas as part of his military service." So the fact that he worked for the CF had him take part in the "training deployment oversease"...

The sexyness level of various naval things.........

What can I say other than I'm a sucker for the classics.  The Russian Kirov class (now called something else....I've been away from the Navy too long...) Don't know if I'm disqualifying myself since it's a cruiser instead of a destroyer or frigate..... To me the Kirov represents what a naval...

    Pay FY 07/08

It will be taxed based on your income, but generally from my experience, we don't get hit with CPP and EI deductions on the income on the front end.  As we always max out on these deductions based on our salaries, they don't take the amounts off of the back pays.  Admittedly, I'm out of my...
