If it is written, then it's true. Toronto Star says new attack helicopters.

I stand corrected. Still though, it's not add on, it was designed into the airframe, just like the Titanium tub in the A-10.

There seems to be quite the misconception that helicopters are armoured. They are not, no, not even the Apache, armour is heavy and really not worth the weight if you take a shot in the tail rotor. They're not designed to be APC's. I don't know the Griffon's set up, but anything more than kevlar...

All up weight is all up weight, doesn't matter where you are. Whether you can lift at AUW is a different story. What matters is torque (Q) required vs torque avail. Q avail is usually the same though can vary with DA, Q required is affected by all kinds of things like Density Alt, aircraft...

Yep, everyone in MARLANT, including Shearwater, is required to do 9mm and C7 every 2 years.

Not expensive at all, in fact, free. I ordered a new set when I wanted my religion changed and then a spare set in case I lose mine. So I have 3 sets in total and they cost exactly the square root of jack squat.

Air Techs are not a "Support Trades"

You're not that new here, but your powers of observation are lacking. If you prefer to see the same info in a different colour, check out www.air-force.ca, also, air-force.ca is still a work in progress so why you're getting riled up over something that's very new to army.ca, milnet.ca, etc is...

Is that sarcasm? DBES is an embroidery shop in Dartmouth, NS. He'll make anything you want, he does all our air detachment badges as well as name tags and sqn patches. He made me wings on the same template as my name tag so that they match in size, shape and colour or shade. In short, unless...

    Height Req For Airforce

Don't worry about it, my leg length was 0.5cm too short and I got what I wanted. Depending on the time of day, you could be taller or shorter than when you were measured. 0.1 is nothing, that's one layer in your helmet liner. In short, why sweat something you can't change? That's life.

END of an ERA (the wedge)

I call BS. No one around here with hair that doesn't meet dress regs, and I work in Shearwater everyday. As for the CADPAT rain jackets or coats with flying suits, it's approved dress. I can't seem to find the CANAIRGEN on it, but I know it came out last year. I wear my CADPAT jackets quite...

Nope, I guess they figured if you're ordering one, you'd know how to wear it.

That's an RAF name tag. The RN and RAF put wings and names on their patches since they only wear the one patch. We wear wings and name tags on separate patches. As you suspected, I would say Canadian pilot on exchange with the RAF. We don't wear patches like that in Canada.

HA! We didn't get that direction, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a baby blue turban in my closet!  ;D

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

I think it's a little more standard now, except for the FLIT guys who do another course on the Hawk in Frosty Pond prior to the Hornet OTU. We all do 100 or so hours on the Harvard II, then another 100 or so hours on AFT, get our wings, and then off to the OTU's. FIS would be the equivalent of...

Yepper, you don't get your wings after the Harvard II, wings are awarded after AFT, either the Jet Ranger, King Air or Hawk. All Instructor pipes go from Harvard II to Hawk, get their wings and then off to FIS. Isn't NFTC great?  ;)

Can NCI Ops still become SACs?

I had heard that it would be a PO2 or above position, similar to the ASWC position. The days of a LS or MS SAC are gone and not coming back anytime soon.

"So You Want To Be A Pilot" Merged Thread 2002 - 2018

It all depends on what you're joining for. As an instructor, you will not deploy, you will not do tactical low level nav, in fact, you very rarely will break out of the standard Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Saskatoon, Regina funk. If you're joining to do different stuff than basic flight...

Easy there cowboy, Loachman has been through Moose Jaw and beyond, as have I, and I'm sure Loachman and Good2Golf will back me up when I say that the jet slots don't always go to the top 2 or 3 guys on a course. A guy in the middle third got jets on my course, 3 of the top 5 got helos. So...
