    Drill Team Practice Length

My mistake, I was unclear. What I meant to say was a good ol' "stand easy; relax" between run throughs is better than a "DON'T MOVE, HEAD AND EYES DIRECTLY FORWARD, CHINS UP SHOULDERS BACK, EVEN THOUGH YOU ALREADY FINISHED THE ROUTINE BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA!" between run throughs, because THAT...

    Drill Team Practice Length

When I was a cadet, our weekly drill team practices were normally 1.5 hours each. We would have drill w/ arms for 1.5 hrs and then drill w/o arms for 1.5 hours (not to mention a 4 hour band practice afterwards). There were many people on both drill teams and the band, and there was usually a...

Berets and How to Form Them

:D That's pretty hilarious. I can just imagine watching that and laughing. Still, on a more serious note, I think that although your story makes you very easy to ridicule, it is worth it if you save just one person from microwaving his or her beret and burning him or herself in a comical manner.

Why do they rig sheers in sea cadets?

The sheers that I dealt with consisted of two legs/spars, forming a bi-pod. When raised, it formed a bi-pod, and was used to lift a load vertically. Here's the current sea cadet sheers that I know: http://www.cadets.ca/seacad/resources-ressources/phase4/6_e.asp I guess two sheers rigged opposite...

Why do they rig sheers in sea cadets?

SI, There are sheerlegs competitions in Ontario. I was on my corps' sheers team in my last year in. Strike, Sea cadets also learn to rig a tripod setup called a Gyn (also for competition in Ontario). It differs from the Sheers in that it has three legs rather than two, and differs from the...

    Any guitar players out there?

Now that you mention it...kinda. I asked the same thing to my peers when I first pulled the buffer out of its hole in the butt (hehehe) of my C7 on IAP. Anyway, I do dabble a bit in the music on occasion. I play the lower brass (trombone/baritone etc) when I can, but that's sometimes difficult...

Merged Quotes and Sayings Thread; some useful, some junk

Ah, yes, I was there so I'll add some context. This was first said to our platoon in a topo review class at the beginning of the course. It was accompanied by much light-switch flickering and desk-banging. Although we understood the intent (that is, to add stress while we practiced finding...

    Supplements on BMQ (merged)

I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist or anything, but in my reading and experience (which is still fairly limited), this is the scoop on protein supplements: Protein is what repairs the muscles post-workout. The average North American diet contains more than enough protein for this function, so...

    Rations while attach posted.

A message came out in October or so about this. The deal is that members without dependants who are attached posted in Canada will no longer be subjected to ration charges, as of 1 Nov 05. This message was emailed to me, and I'll post it if I can find it.

    Competitions

Back when I was a cadet, my corps habitually won band and drill competitions at the area level, and often at provincials too. I can't remember what we won each year, but it was enough for me to lose track. We formed a biathlon team in my final year and we did fairly well in that. Ahh, the good...

    damaged combat boots

Combat boots needn't be brought to a high shine. Just apply polish to the uppers with your brush to blacken them, which will give them a slight sheen. Since they are work boots, scuffs and scratches happen, and shouldn't be a problem.

    MARS III/IV math requirements

I got a self study sheet on NETPO this past summer. I find it good for self study. As was already mentioned, it looks intimidating/complicated in this sort of abstract, mathematical setting, but if you want, sit down, work it out so that it makes sense. Its fairly easy to figure out the patterns...
