    Benefits Cut...

I have just been posted on IR (daughters finishing High school next school year). Lucky for me, I am living out of the shacks and cooking my own food. If these cuts mean that there are not larger cuts coming, or that more equipment can be purchased I can live with this. I'll watch what I buy for...

City of Toronto’s HUSAR team deployed to Elliot Lake

Some military firefighters have had USAR training. They were used in Haiti after the earthquake.

    Posting Messages 2012 APS

I received my posting message two weeks ago. Surprised it came in when it did, we were thinking it would be after the budget.

    Posted to Halifax..

When I left the Dockyard in 2008 you could park your motorcycle outside of each of the three gates. You still needed a parking pass but there was no time requirement like there is for a car. I don't know if that has changed in the last 4 years.

Volunteer firefighters in Reg Force (merged)

I'm back at work later this week and will try to post a link then.  The main part is that whatever fire department you volunteer with should have enough insurance that if something were to happen you would be covered by them if not by Veterans. I do not know anything about an 8 hour of rest...

Volunteer firefighters in Reg Force (merged)

There is a form to fill out for volunteering as a fire fighter. Problem is not too many people are aware of it. I'll try and post a link when I go back to work. It is in RAMM Chapter 10 (this is the fire service program). It is a form basically stating that if you are injured and have to be...

    All Things CF Firefighter (merged)

Unfortunately there is no simple answer. CFFCA (the new name of CFFA since it combined with the CBRN school) would have to look at your course. This would also include where you took it and what was taught. Part of this is that some of the fire schools out there are kind of scarey as to what...

    CF firefighters...were they in Somalia???

As far as I know we did not have fire fighters in Somalia. Our first large scale deployment was to Haiti under OP Pivot. We did have firefighters in Bosnia however I don't believe anything that he describes happened.  I know we have had people that where over there in other trades prior to...

CF Members and time alloted for PT

Our trade (military firefighters) has its own DOAD regarding fitness and fitness testing (DOAD 4007-4). We are required to do 1 hour per shift. Does it always happen, no some shifts you are too busy or have your work out routine interrupted by a call. We have our own PT test also. Most fire...

    Comm Research

I did the course in the early 90's and the morse code was included in part 1. You had to pass 22 wpm and a typing test. We had I believe 10 weeks to get to this standard. If you didn't meet the standard they usually recoursed you (at least for the first attempt). That was also there to help give...

Fire Ftr and Air Force only?

Military firefighters are an air force trade mainly due to the fact that we are responsible for air craft rescue. The only army base that has military firefighters (vice DND firefighters) is Edmonton.  That has a lot to do with what happened during the 90's and trying to save money. As far as...

Naval Improved Clothing and Equipment (NICE) Project

We were saying pretty much the same thing. Somebody in the PMQs calls for help and a bunch of guys in cadpat show up, may confuse people. However on base 90% of the time we are in turn out gear (stands out pretty well). Their thought is more for deployed ops it would give us the protection of...

Naval Improved Clothing and Equipment (NICE) Project

The military firefighters have been looking at something similar for a couple of years now. We are trying to get away from the blue nomex coveralls going to cadpat or arid cadpat. From the discussion I had with a CWO last fall they are running into a problem with it. When they apply the cadpat...

    Firefighters' fitness test ruled discriminatory

As far as the greivences go, I don't know how they got that many. I am not sure if people put in a grievence once a year as this was a yearly test. I do know that this has been an ongoing issue since I remustered in 2001. For the 12 week work up period, that was a solution to one of the...

    Firefighters' fitness test ruled discriminatory

Battleaxe, The fitness test has been around as long as I have been a firefighter (since 2001). I have heard that it came in during the late 90's. I will try to find out when it did come in for sure. As far as the trade, we have around 450 - 470 in our trade. We lose roughly 70 - 80 a year for...

    Firefighters' fitness test ruled discriminatory

I am a military firefighter and have done the fitness test for several years. It was an annual test that we had to complete every year instead of the CF Express test. One thing that many people do not know is that there are two types of firefighters. CF military firefighters (651 trade) and DND...
