    Building without permission....

On another forum I haunt I have learned that are many parts of rural US where build codes, health codes (septic) do not apply. Neither does the electrical code if you are off-grid. In Ontario, if you are in an unorganized municipality, you don't need a building permit but now need to build to...

    Building without permission....

Do you live in a place that enforces a building code? If yes, then no. Do you operate your homemade toy on public roads? If yes, then no.

    Building without permission....

Works better in governance or business practices. If I'm having a house built, I'd prefer the folks have credentials and qualifications.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

No clue. Not my area either. Phone to tower and tower to tower frequencies would have to be distinct. Some towers in the middle of nowhere might be relay only but I suspect most would be relay/downlink.

Canada moves to 2% GDP end of FY25/26 - PMMC

A lot of ingenuity, born of necessity. I've watched clips of entire engine rebuilds in some dusty back lot. OHS as well as highway transport and road safety rules seem a little lighter.

Great if the goal is have one-way communications from one or a few points. Not so great if you expect any of those 25K to call a significant number of the same 25K. Group calling is limited to a handful of numbers. One problem with cel phone use during emergencies is the towers can get...

    Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

Proclaimed by a number of victims . . . just before they died, from either a knee in the back or positional asphyxia. Just think of all the money society could save if we just let the cops shoot people. Save all those silly courts. /s

What Could Canada's Constitutional (Monarchy?) Look Like? (split from Andrew Mountbatten Arrested)

It would depend on governance model is landed on. If the US-style combined HoS/HoG, then obviously you only have to expense of one office. If a HoS is retained, elected or otherwise, then those costs are retained. Particularly if it is a largely ceremonial role. We're not going to give them...

What Could Canada's Constitutional (Monarchy?) Look Like? (split from Andrew Mountbatten Arrested)

I fail to see what set of circumstances would trigger it, short of a BQ national majority.

What Could Canada's Constitutional (Monarchy?) Look Like? (split from Andrew Mountbatten Arrested)

I don't see any government expending the political capital to add this as a platform plank.

What Could Canada's Constitutional (Monarchy?) Look Like? (split from Andrew Mountbatten Arrested)

I've never quite understood the desire to move away from being a constitutional monarchy and having a Head of State that costs us not a dime, to what end? To make us feel 'all grow'd up'? If Parliament isn't working, that's on us (or it). There's nothing in legislation that centralizes power...

Probably typical government accounting, where they include the purchase price, plus 40 year operating costs including fuel, windshield washer fluid, crew costs and Christmas presents.

    The Arctic

Along with Harper, Linklater and Rae. Hudson's Bay and Northwest Cos supply ships from the UK regularly made their final stops in Scotland, including the Orkneys and Hebrides and would often take on young men for work in the factories (posts/forts). Depending on the voyage, they would also...

    Pipelines, energy and natural resources

I'm certainly not in the 'know better' column but apparently pumping stations have to be no more than 100km apart (there are many factors involved). I imagine seabed temperatures would be a negative factor.

    Replacing the Subs

Yes you do. Choices have consequences. Your next master might only require you to ask 'do you want fries with that'. Being branded as someone who breaks confidence can be career limiting. Even if the 'other team' gets the job, you could still be seen as disloyal. All of this assumes you...

The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

I fail to see how you accomplish that by having all or even part of our military assets under US control. Do we not just end up buying and staffing assets for them to use as they see fit? If long term planning and acquisition is not responsive enough for a fast changing world, speed up our...
