All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

You’re correct. I lived in Quebec at the time of the referendum and there wasn’t even a hint of connection to the U.S.

All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

I had been thinking only about the Alberta achieving its ’freedom’ from Canada for its benefit. I believe *Quebecers are too savy to naively believe that they’d have a notably ‘better deal’ being absorbed by the U.S. I think there’s a lot of ‘believing one’s own argument for full independence’...

All Things AB Separatism (split fm Liberal Minority Government 2025 - ???)

“Taxation without representation” may be a thing…does anyone really think that Trump/MAGA wouldn’t neutralize the Northern Liberal (relatively) threat to their political survival?

    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

They could, but to date, they have not. Fabricating an SLBM is not an easy task in and of itself. Interestingly, the UK chose not to pursue tactical air-launched nuclear weapons, unlike….alors, La république de France. Oh, I’m not saying that the U.S. ‘eat its cake and have it too’ regarding...

That math doesn’t MAGAmath, much like Canadian per capita import of America’s goods and service at a rate 8 times greater than U.S. imports of Canadian goods gets a MAGAyawn.

    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

UK remains beholden to the U.S. to use its nuclear capability. France has no U.S.-based LIMFACs on its 100% sovereign nuclear armament program. No matter how you slice it, the UK’s nuclear weapons program is not 100% sovereign.

    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

Perhaps unintended, but you undervalue the benefit that America derived from having pawns supporting its agenda. The benefit was in no way omnidirectional for European Canada.

    A Deeply Fractured US

I was towing my little utility trailer and got rear ended at a red light by a (penile compensating) pickup truck driver who told the police they didn’t see my trailer. It seems safety can be an afterthought in many N.A. Brand vehicles.

    2026 US-Denmark Tensions/End of NATO

So America warns Europe of future US drawdown, yet continues to soften its position against Russia. Ironically, many European countries are actually envisioning US forces leaving (or being invited to leave) their respective countries, sooner than later. I’ve personally heard those rumblings...

I agree on the whole, though I think they France is a central driver in that consolidation, for amongst other factors, that it is in very little way of any, if being beholden to American pressure.

I wasn’t talking about a backslide, I was looking for your thoughts on ‘if not France and Germany, where do you see the root(s) of a “strong and independent” Europe?’

More on France’s take on nuclear deterrence and moving away from the unnamed U.S., Link to the Europe thread, to avoid duplicate postings. In short, France doesn’t trust the deterrence framework of the Cold War (implied: the ‘guarantor’ of that Cold War deterrence is now demonstrating...
