    colour party

It seems somehow worse to see an ADC do this.  They should be high on the list of officers who know how to wear swords correctly.

Senate page fired for anti-Harper protest

It strikes me as a pretty naive move for someone who is likely to be "politically engaged", as they put it.  Certainly not appropriate for reasons of partisanship and respect for the Governor General and, really, the whole institution of Parliament.

    Naval Board (Victoria 17-18 May)

It's out there somewhere; I know I've read it in the last week.  I don't remember where; possibly in something from the Naval Officers Association.

CMAC: Mil judges w/no long-term tenure = lack of independence

What's the normal career progression for a military judge -- are they appointed from among the more senior legal officers, and then meant to remain as judges until CRA?

    Air Force Forage Cap

Yes, I saw one of these belonging to a USN officer in a cloakroom once.  It made ours look like a fireman's helmet in comparison.

The 'What If Canada Gets Attacked' Superthread

As others have said, there's a large military presence in Ottawa in the form of National Defence Headquarters -- although that's not a "pointy-end" entity. Military bases aren't the same thing as old-fashioned forts so are not necessarily located with a view to defending the surrounding area. ...

What are you complaining about?  Everyone loves Marineland.

    Air Force Forage Cap

Agreed, but, interestingly enough, it was worn on naval air stations at one time -- so it too has an air force connection in so far as the Canadian air force now encompasses the navy's air power.  However, that is a bit of a stretch.

    Air Force Forage Cap

I suppose it's because the wedge is easier to pack and store (including, e.g., in closets where there's often not room for hats).

The 'What If Canada Gets Attacked' Superthread

I imagine it's safe to say that all, or virtually all, CF members would indeed fight in such a war. If you enjoy fiction regarding this scenario you should see if you can get your hands on a few novels by Richard Rohmer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Rohmer), in particular Ultimatum...

Conservatives to debate treason law res'n at June convention

I'm not wild about the idea of taking away a person's citizenship either.  As others have said, what do you do with such people?  I can't imagine very many countries accepting them.  (Even Antarctica isn't an option -- permanent residents aren't allowed!) Most convicted criminals will, at some...

Canadian Forces Welcome First Female Admiral As Chief Reserves And Cadets

Just considering the cadet side of it, her mandate includes the Directorate of Cadets which is the national policy-making and training development staff for the cadet programme. The actual delivery of the cadet programme is by regional units whose chain of command is through the commander of...

    Air Force Forage Cap

Yes, but not necessarily to that level of detail.  (cf. naval pers who, in most orders of dress, have a choice between cap and beret.  If the rig is shown only as "3B", for example, you may see some of each in the crowd.) As an example, I know of a major who has a forage cap and wears when...

    Monarchy?

It's been done once that I know of, quite a while ago (ca. the silver jubilee, I think).  It seems to me that there was a fairly recent event (not the whole trip) in the US that she attended in her Canadian capacity as well, but I'm not sure about that.

Perhaps when attending a parade on your own, as a spectator.

    Navy Reserve in Vancouver

No idea, but I'll offer the suggestion that you should be prepared to wait for answers however you contact them as the recruiter may only be there one evening a week (or on some other similar schedule).  The pace of things like this can be very slow in the reserve world.  You might try calling...

It is now.  I'm not sure when that changed.

Thinking of becoming an officer but need some clearance

Separation expense would be a bit of money paid to you because you are separated from your family. Normally, regular force (i.e. full-time) CF members are required to live on base for their basic training course (which is a few months long) and sometimes subsequent courses.  Apart from your...

French Speaking Sailors In The Canadian Navy.

Was PRO even a FLU?  I have some vague notion that it was but I can't say for sure. If so, I wonder what's changed for the navy to go from two (or more) FLUs to some fraction of one?
