Voluntary Occupational Transfer ( VOT )

It does appear that is still the case. OFP and 48 months continuous service. The exception appears to be for those wanting to go SF Op and CBRN Op, they are reduced to 24 months. Still no sign of DAOD.

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2019

If past years are any indication of what will happen this year I will say to be patient. Offers in the May time frame are quite normal. End of March/first of April would be crazy fast for them. To keep it in perspective, I received my offer in June of my competition year. The waiting game...

Special forces looks at recruiting off the street amid shifting demands

A bit of a tangent sorry. But its just not SOF applications I've seen end up lost in a black hole of paperwork. I've experienced the same phenomenon for everything from simple memo requests, to VOT applications, commissioning program applications, requests for SLT, etc. Maybe I've just been...

Special forces looks at recruiting off the street amid shifting demands

Had the same thing happen to one of my subordinates who was applying. Our OIC kept sitting on the paper work, filed away in the black hole drawer of his desk. I made a call over to a friend who was working at cansof at the time in the section my guy was applying for. They hashed it out from...

    Old olive drab uniforms

Yes I have, although I still have my OD Parka. No real need for me to have a Cadpat one. However its def good to know that the old gear can be put to good use.

    Electronic-Optronic Technician ( EO Tech )

ETSM is Equipment Technical Sergeant Major...ie the senior tech on base, usually a CWO (although I think that may be changing to an MWO?) CM is the career manager. Life in the field for EO is really busy for the first few days/last few days as we set up and tear down the electrical system that...

    Electronic-Optronic Technician ( EO Tech )

Well Old EO Tech pretty much spelled it out right there. Like he said, the kit you work on is dependent on the unit you are at. Just to add a bit, first postings off of QL3/DP1 are generally to a Service Battalion in either Edmonton, Petawawa, Gagetown, and Valcartier. There are other spots but...

    Electronic-Optronic Technician ( EO Tech )

Hey, was an EO tech for 15 years before recently commissioning, feel free to ask away. Btw, POET is no longer a separate course for EO Techs, it is integrated into the QL3/DP1 course so I'm not sure how a PLAR would go in this case.

    CANFORGEN 168/18 (aka PATCHFORGEN) [Merged]

I've seen so many different variations since my post back in Nov that I really don't know what to make of it anymore. Standardization seems to be right out the window, but I guess that doesn't matter these days.

Canadian soldiers suffer frostbite during winter training

    What element to pick

The Int Op course is broken down into a common course for all elements, the second half is element specific. All the Int ops since I have been in Kingston have theirĀ  initial postings to a base that matches their element

University Training Plan NCM (UTPNCM) 2019

The minimum to apply for UTPNCM is 4 3-credit hour(1 semester/half year) courses or 2 6-credit hour (2 semester/full year) courses. Total of 12 credit hours. If you only have 2 3-credit hour courses, you don't meet the minimum standards to apply. You would need either 2 more half year or 1 full...

    CANFORGEN 168/18 (aka PATCHFORGEN) [Merged]

The Canadian Flag is on the Left side so they aren't just ditching the Canadian Flag. If Navy Pers are in CADPAT, why not have the Ensign in place of the Div patch. If we are going all "patchy" what difference does it make.

    CANFORGEN 168/18 (aka PATCHFORGEN) [Merged]

Yup my mistake, edited my post to read div patch instead of brigade. So Navy pers wearing the ensign as opposed to a div patch seems reasonable (as reasonable as all the patch business is). Is there a pic where it is actually taking the place of the Canada flag?

    Paid Education [Merged]

And proof of passing the courses the ILP has been submitted for. If you fail the course, you are not reimbursed. So no, you do not just get that money to use where ever you want.

Unless the pic is flipped, it doesnt look like the Canada flag is being replaced as it is worn on the left side...it looks like this is being worn in lieu of a div patch.
