Boot, General Purpose (Mk III acting/interim replacement)

Sounds like a Single-serving boot to me. Open wrapper, wear boot for a day, toss, unwrap a new one...

Officer going NCM... does IAP BOTP CAP count for anything?

Ack. Been too far removed from the recruiting process to have the latest skinny on what each qual entails. Did some searching and got the listing of the new quals. Back to the topic at hand.

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

That's how I've read the situation as well ... adding to the confusion of what was and what is. I was trying to get a sense of what the current (3RCR) TF is working with and what is over the horizon. As trivial it may sound, the equipment policies (for the BG/OMLT at least) may have correlations...

Officer going NCM... does IAP BOTP CAP count for anything?

OK - My take on this: BMQ = QL2 (old title) SQ = QL3 (old title) Not sure about QL4 (MOC qual) PLQ (Mods 1-5) = JLC (CLC) (old title) PLQ (Mod 6) = JNCO (CLC) (old title) BOTP = JLC (CLC) CAP = JNCO (CLC)

"The stuff the army issues is useless" and "no non-issue kit over seas!"

Speaking of what is and isn't allowed to be worn, what is the current state of affairs with TF 3-08 and beyond? What's the actual word from the sandbox and where are the follow-on BG's going with non-issued kit? It would be interesting to get a sense of the trend, preferably from someone in...

Officer going NCM... does IAP BOTP CAP count for anything?

JLC/JNCO (PLQ now I guess), deployment experience and a nicely crafted memo allowed me to skip CAP, if this helps at all for what worked. BOTC/BOTP was in my experience equivalent to the JLC portion of the JLC/JNCO course - finishing with Small Part Taskings, whereas the JNCO portion took it up...

    security clearance + atis QL3

For lvl III, up to 18 months waiting time. Average is about 12 months. Sorry for the bad news. Lvl II is pretty straightforward and should be less than 6 months (financial and police check).

The stuff the Army issues is Excellent!

True - they're not getting the wear and tear they used to nowadays.  OK, so they have been well used for just under a decade then (not really liking the desk jockey part  :P) Time to wear out the seat of my pants and the back of the combat shirt.

Wanted - Vert Grip for C7/C8

I have the carbine-length ARMS SIR #50 (civ version that does not require gunsmithing), and am in the market for a full-length rail system for the C7 as well (two-piece, one-for-one replacement, non-permanent). Two options for me: DD Omega Rail 12.0 or Midwest Industries MCTAR-19 (full lenght...

Wanted - Vert Grip for C7/C8

WS has Daniel Defense (Omega Rail, Carbine and Rifle lengths), A.R.M.S S.I.R. Systems (Civ and Mil) and Midwest Industries (free float and 2-piece). You must have very discerning taste.

The Whole New Knife, Liz May, Gear Up, Racism Merged Thread

Maybe good for cutting butter or C4? Had an option of getting one issued, never bothered (Zero Tolerance 0200ST all the way) Politics, votes and kit do not a happy soldier make (SLVW, anyone?)

The stuff the Army issues is Excellent!

The Mk III boots (with Vibram soles and Spencos  ;D). Both pairs are going strong since basic (over a decade ago). Must have been from a good batch.

Wanted - Vert Grip for C7/C8

I am certainly stating the obvious here, but Wolverine Supplies has (not necessarily in stock, but will BO) rail systems for both C8 (i.e. Carbine) and C7 (i.e. Full Length) rifles. Now, I do not know their policy about ordering said items without a PAL...

    New Rucksack

Riiiiight.... and what does this Load Carriage Factsheet say about the TV? http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/Chief_Land_Staff/Clothe_the_soldier/hab/PDF/FactSheets/TV_e.pdf "The TV is compatible with the CTS Load Carriage System (LCS), which will include the Small Pack System and the Rucksack." Not...

    Canadian Flag for Shoulder

And that horrible rending noise when putting on or taking off the small pack is the flag separating from the loop section. Happens to the best of us.

    New brown boots on trial?

Crap. You're right. The link only gives the first clip (with archival footage and current JTF-A comd) in a series of CTV specials from Pet on the day I found it. The clip I was referring to showed troops either in Pet or Texas, both in TW and AR combats firing weapons, walking on dirt paths in...

    New Rucksack

Ack. You are right. I was referring to the massive CF sleeping bag system. However, even the 2-piece US Sleeping bag system is a tight fit, despite using a good MEC compression sack. Noting is stopping the user from, as you say, using add-on pouches to expand the flexibility of the pack (say...

    New Rucksack

First off, caveat: I do not have personal experience with the new CF rucksack (only 82 pattern wireframe POS and jump ruck).  I do, however, have good familitarity with the Kifaru line of rucks, particularly the MMR and the Marauder. The MMR is the smaller version of the EMR. While great for...

    Sit-Ups

Also, when doing hanging leg/knee raises, make sure you stop (if your abs allow) when you cannot round your lower back (or pelvis) forward with the up-swing of the legs/knees. The lower back starts taking an incredible strain as soon as it arches backwards when raising the legs. And not sure if...
