    Medcat and Promotion Thread- Merged

I was recently diagnosed with a chronic GI disease, and was placed on TCAT while awaiting a decision from Ottawa as to whether I get medically released or not. However, I'm overdue for promotion. My BOR won't start paperwork until the doctor says that I can be promoted, but the one I spoke to in...

    New PWT 1

When I was on BMQ back in '05, they already had something going like this, on the automated range at Farnham. On my DP1 later that year, we did it again, in Valcartier, but on a conventional range, and it was best four out of five. Guess this was in the works for a while now.

    Ordering Uniforms...

Do you mean your DEUs? They'll be there when they'll be there, you should get a call from clothing stores. But you said you just joined the reserves. You do not have an immediate need for these items. What's the big rush?

    Marine wannabe?

Semper fidelis just means always faithful. It can be used well out of a military context. It's just because of its adoption by the USMC that there are some strings attached...

    Fortissimo 2007 - Ottawa, Aug. 16, 17, 18

Three weeks? *coughs* The drill team, maybe. As for the guard doing the feu de joie, I think they got less, and the group with the flags and torches, which I was part of, had maybe three to four hours total worth of practice. Still, it went well.

    washroom problems

The only conversation I've had there was in Valcartier, to the guy next to me, after passing five days of field rations... "I think I broke it!" (The toilet, not my colon...)

    Fortissimo 2007 - Ottawa, Aug. 16, 17, 18

Just a reminder that the Ceremonial Guard is holding its annual Fortissimo event on the evenings of August 16 to 18, at Parliament Hill, 1845 hours. Performances by the Continuity Drill Team of CG, the Central Band of the CF, North Irish Territorial Band, and several others.

I stand corrected on the French drill. What I meant, however, was that CG was a formed body of troops trained in ceremonial duties. Unit is probably the wrong word.

A permanent wreath and/or a cordon would be great. Even just a sign that says to be respectful of the site/stay off the tomb in several languages could work, seeing as the only thing to that effect right now is actually carved into the stone next to the tomb, in only English and French. As to...

Conflict in Darfur, Sudan - The Mega Thread

Pakistan and Bangladesh contribute in great numbers because it pays the bills. They may have experience, but I'd hesitate to say that they'd be the troops I'd want for the mission...

Technically, the Guards can call a beat to scare people away - tapping the rifle butt on the ground signals the sentries to take a pace forward, shoulder arms, outwards turn, march 9 paces out, 9 paces in. We like to skip that, sometimes... A chain is actually a great idea, though. Though the...

The security member is in a bit of a tricky spot. Unless something is blatantly wrong, he's not supposed to step up on the elevated area where the tomb is. By the time the tourist is done his crotch-grab shot, it's too late. When we started this tasking, we were originally told to keep people...

I've done several shifts at the tomb. We get a lot of tourists that want to take pictures that I quite frankly don't feel are appropriate for that setting. People have come up next to me and posed as they would at Rideau Hall. It's fine there, but I find that at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier...

    Twins and recruiting

While I can't say whether it would have an impact on postings, it's pretty certain that if something unfortunate happens on deployment to one of you, the other could very likely be held back from going over.

And for the moment, that's how it will stay. We're hearing rumbles about extending the sentry shifts at the Tomb year-round, but nothing to report as of yet.

The robot will be trialled at Rideau hall first, and, if proven acceptable, should be phased in for next summer.

From the information passed down to us, on Canada Day sentries will be posted from 0700 to 0000, and then daily during the public duties season (until 27Aug) as per the same schedule in force at Rideau Hall (0900-1700)

For the record, there's a GGHG member at CG this summer filling a staff position. A MCpl, I think.

    longpoint Montreal

I've never had any uniform issues at Longue Pointe, but I thought it was a no-brainer to shave first. I know I was turned down at clothing stores in Ottawa because I was wearing jeans and not proper slacks, maybe this is coming to Montreal too.
